Hmm this or 1.5 months of rent?

    • +2

This of course no doubt. Imagine the whooping saving of $100 getting the newest iPhone 15 Pro 1TB. I mean who needs a roof over their head and foods on their tables anyway am I right? /s

    • +4

      Don’t you mean weeks?

    • Paying rent is for poors. 1TB iPhone 15 pro is where it's at if you wanna stay cool

      • Buying expensive items to flex is for poors.

If a non essential item is going to cause any level of financial pain, you really need to re-think purchasing it.

        • No financial pain here. Just back pain carrying all my cash around

        • Buy Now, Think Later

    • I mean, you could always go on a plan? (Yes, I realise Costco don't do plans).

  • Absolute bargain!

    • $100 less than an absolute bargain, to be precise

  • +3

$2650 doesn't even buy you a fully-specced-out pro max. society

    • +1

At what point how much is too much?

      • +1

I would never spend more than $1.5k on a phone. Refurbished with a 22% eBay Plus discount code for me.

        • +5

          my budget is $400 :/

          • +2

@Jack D Price: Mine is $300 and I'd rather not have a phone at all of i could get away with it

        • Seems like a bit of a silly rule to have when phone prices are constantly changing based on exchange rates.

      • +3

At the $2650 point, it's definitely too much

      • +3

we passed that point looong ago….

      • +2

I reckon iPhone Pro could go up to $4,500. Remember when you were a kid, or if you're older, remember when you were a bit younger and powerful laptops were all the rage? Adjusted for inflation we were all paying 4.5k for our beasties back then. Phones have replaced desktop and laptop computers as the gadget you pump money into it. I guess if you combine the Pro phones, tablets, and smart watches then some of us are already paying that.

        • Solid point there. What will people with disposable income may throw money away on and those without may spoil themselves with.

          That's the market snapshot

      • When your tax claims are maxed

    • Yep, just dumb if you’re spending this much, and not getting the top model.

      • and yet there was a line outside the sydney george st apple store the other day, some time after launch. go figure.

        • Fine, if they got the Pro Max :)

        • +2

You live in the most expensive city of what is a very wealthy country. It's not really that complicated.

          • @ihfree: I bet the local residents make up less than a quarter of the line. It's mostly mainland Chinese/Vietnamese buying up stocks so that they can resell back in their countries.

Their customers would pay top dollar to get the phones slightly earlier so that they could show off.

      • +1

Pro Max isn’t an ergonomic size for many people.

The 120mm lens in the Pro Max is a focal length that’s arguably less useful than the 77mm on the Pro depending on the types of things you shoot. Trying to take shots on the Pro Max at 77mm results in an image that’s worse quality than the Pro due to cropping of the main sensor being used.

    • +6

Just buy a phone that fits your budget. They're pretty damn good no matter the price. I was even impressed with a Nokia 2.3 a few years back when in between phones.

Do all premium products upset you?

      • cars
      • clothes
      • jewellery
      • bags
      • But I think the question here is if iphones should really be defined as premium products…as in apart from the brand being perceived as a status symbol…

  • +1

$2649.99 is a one way Business class ticket from Jakarta - New York in Qatar Qsuites or Singapore Airlines

    • +3

Or a pre-built PC with RTX4080 from Techfast with special PCIe Wifi card tapped on the side.

      • +7

Or the most amazing couple of hours of your life with the best escort agency in the city. Well knowing how wealthy some people are, maybe the fifth best escort agency in your city.

    • +4

That is more indulgent than an iPhone.

Imagine getting nothing at the end of trip - except another bill for the return ticket.

At least the iPhone is a very useful tool, and flex, and can be sold again!

      • Yeah I agree. A first class flight is more like one night in a good hotel room vs one night in a hostel for flying economy. A lot of us would never pay that much for one night in a hotel. We'd want it, but we know we'd never actually pay for it. Maybe a once in a lifetime thing, like honeymoon after your first wedding. Or after selling one of your investment properties. But even then a lot of us wouldn't be able to afford it for even our first wedding, and a lot of us never own an investment property, or at least never own enough of one vs the bank owning the rest to justify that kind of treat.

    • +1

Bad comparison. I would rather an iphonr

    • Does that come with a phone? Also a flight is pure luxury, as it's gone once you have used it.

    • how are you coming back tho

  • +1

Living up to its reputation as a status symbol.

  • +1

yea $100 makes such a big difference lol

  • +2

People who buy this will not bat an eye at the 'rrp' price tag, and those same people who can splash this much on a phone probably upgrade every year. Still a $100 discount but I'd really like to know who's looking at this thinking "ooh yep $100 off, sign me up." 🤔

    • I have friends who upgrade every year who don't bat an eye at the price tag. They still look for the best price.

I do the same with pretty much everything I buy. Remember, your wallet doesn't care where savings come from.

    • There are still different priorities. I don’t really care about the price, but I’m aware I would never really use storage, given everything is uploaded to the cloud.

If they still offered the 128 pro max, I would buy that. I see no point paying for extra storage…

  • +4

    Damn…. Maximum purchase of 3.

    • One for your daily driver, one for special occasions, and one for the safe as an emergency replacement

      • +2

I always need a fourth to keep one on Facebook marketplace just to let my friends know im upgrading though. Otherwise I might as well just buy some android phone and not mention it

  • In ten years it's going to be 10TB

    • +2

You must be joking… will be 10TB per photo. After shooting you will be able to change everything: light, contrast, focus point, zoom, day/night, sky, even the place :)

      • +2

The you share it on WhatsApp and will be 256kb again

  • Over priced! Over hype!

    • +1

This is your whole life in the palm of your hand. Is your life worth a few grand? I think we all know the answer to that question…

      • +4

So if you lose it then you’ve lost your whole life

        • Probably time to pack our bags and live in the Cloud

    • LOL every iPhone deal.

  • few years ago we all complained about who would pay a grand for a phone and few years from now we will bitch about 4k for a phone haha

    • To be fair, smart phones were $1.5k in 2008. With inflation, this is a bargain.

      • Another bad comparison.
Cars were more expensive than houses. Doesn’t mean everyone should buy $1m car and call it a bargain now.
Tech gadgets are always expensive when just emerged for early adopters then cheaper when widely adopted.
I use iPhone since 3GS, how much I love iPhone how much I hate their pricing in recent years.

        • There will always be luxury items of anything. iPhone pros are luxury items, the regular iPhone are their affordable options. The pricing is insane, only if you upgrade regularly. Keep them 4-5 years and they are a bargain.

  • Why wouldnt apple charge such insane amounts when every teenager just slaps the new iphone on a monthly plan, as well as every government worker out there. In 2 years it'll be 3 grand. Maybe in 4 years time when the new one costs 4 grand I'll be able to afford a 13.

  • -1

Seems like every iPhone I see has a cracked screen…. Why is that? 🤔

    • Hard to answer without more information.

The friends with broken screens were generally less well off and therefore more likely to hold onto a device with a broken screen for longer.

Phones with third party screens also seem to be much more likely to break.

    • +2

Probably because there are more iPhones than there are anything else?

  • +1

'Member when phones hit $1k and people lost their minds?

    Yeh, I 'member.

    • Phones are already past 3K and close to exceeding 4K.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/443118

    • When I splurged on the Galaxy S6 Edge for around $1k, I thought no way am I doing this again. Now even the "affordable" flagship (Pixel 5) I'm running now was about $1k when I bought it a few years back. The only way is to just not buy flagships anymore

    • Yea, back in 2006 I think. Those were the days

    • One can argue that phones are replacing camera & game console & personal computer. Hence are the prices.

  • +1

Just cause it's new and it's Apple doesn't mean less than 4% off is a bargain.

    • +4

This is a dumb reason to neg. What is a bargain? 50%?

      • +4

Saying 3.7% is a bargain is what's dumb here

        • +2

Most people buying can only buy at RRP, and a lot of people were waiting to buy depending on how they upgraded

$100 off is a bargain, though not cheap, and not necessarily worth it, but it’s definitely the cheapest if you were after this specific model

          • @ozbking: Tbh I don't think such a small reduction in cost fits the colloquial definition of 'bargain'.

The reason I'm more confused is that gift card deals can get you a way better discount on new iphones, and yeah there's some effort involved, but Costo membership is also effort and money…

        • +1

Would you prefer to save 3.7% on $1000 or 50% on $10 dollars?

          • +1

@ihfree: I think sanur would choose the later cos 50% is bigger than 3.7% mathematically.

        • +1

So $100 saving is not good enough for you? Most people here would be happy with paying less than they have to.

  • no pro max?

  • -3

    Wow!

    • -3

Yeah so much wow hey, total disconnect of value.

      • Maybe to you. If it wasn’t worth it’s value then they would never sell so many at RRP.

        • +1

"All these people couldn't possibly be stupid" is not a valid supposition when discussing behaviour. Stupidity is the human condition. Apple are seeing how far they can push the RRP, it's a social experiment how far people will go. It's not about value, it's about marketing and profits.

People who irrationally love iPhone can't see the disconnect, it's worth absolutely anything to them so they call that emotional need value. There's even been cases of people selling kidneys to buy iPhones. Well they value it more than their body so it's value, right?

Great phone? Sure. $2650 being a bargain? now let's not diverge from reality too much.

          • @illogicalerror: Sure. But that applies to anything. I want an iPhone and that’s the price for it. I don’t understand why people pay 4k for a handbag with a name but it’s the same reasoning, more or less. Plus these are companies. They are not about making a product and selling it to break even. Welcome to capitalism.

  • Good deal I think

  • Great savings, now I can finally afford those 5 dollar coffees for 20 days..

  • +1

$2K for a phone? Crazy world!

    • +1

Completely agree. I said the same when phone since cost $1k at each $500 increment, now close to $3k for 15 Pro Max 1TB.

Next phone better build with feature like 3D scanning, 3D printing so that Apple can price them $10k. Haha
