Monitor Arm Height Adjustment (North Bayou F80)

Hi

I'm having an issue adjusting the height of my North Bayou F80 monitor arm. The arm out of the box seems to be fixed at a high height (I'm unable to move it). The common tip I've read is to reduce the tension – but adjusting the tension requires turning an allen key/wrench, which I'm unable to do because of the position the arm is locked in (i.e. I'm unable to turn the allen key (see photos)).

I've also tried attaching the monitor and the height still won't budge.

Anyone have any tips?

Thanks

  • Do you have the other half of the monitor arm?

I don't believe the tension affects height adjustment, but I could be wrong. My NB monitor arms are also quite difficult to adjust height wise without a lot of force, but you should have the monitor attached first to prevent it springing back up. What I found most helpful is pushing/pulling at the top of the arm (e.g., in your second photo, to the left of the logo).

Install it onto your desk along with monitor. With the monitor’s added weight, you should be able to access the screws.

If the problem is accessing the bolt in the first image, then a long allen key with a ball head on the long arm might do it. These can be inserted at an angle. The shitty Ikea-style tool that comes with these arms would be inadequate, they don't tend to have ball heads.

I didn't even consider adjusting that tensioning bolt until after mounting the monitor though. I didn't have to adjust it much, and it was fairly easy to move with the weight of the monitor on it.

Install the unit completely and then apply pressure on the arm to bend it down to access the alan key.

You'll be able to apply more torque/force on the arm when istalled vs trying to bend it and have the whole thing simply rotate

  • thanks for the tips guys - what you suggested worked.

i had initially installed it on the table and attached the monitor but didn't apply enough force downwards (i was a bit nervous about if my table could handle it!). pushing down with more force got it to move and from there i could decrease the tension to a more normal level.

  • +1 for this entire thread being helpful and non-judgmental.

    Love it!
