Thoughts on This Mini-ITX Build?

Looking for some OZB wisdom on this SFF mini-ITX gaming build, targeting 1440p at high settings. Trying not to go over ~$2200, still tossing up between whether or not a DDR5 system is worth the extra $$$. And, for anyone using the CM NR200 case, are extra case fans recommended?

CPU: Intel Core i5-13600KF
CPU Cooler: Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE
MOBO: ASRock B660M-ITX/ac Mini ITX LGA1700
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600
Storage: Lexar NM790 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4
GPU: Sapphire PULSE Radeon RX 7800 XT 16 GB
Case: Cooler Master NR200 Mini ITX
PSU: Cooler Master V750 SFX GOLD 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular SFX

PCPartPicker Price: ~$2150
.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated; TIA!

  • NR200 is a lovely case. Check out the version with the built in water cooling and PSU, sometime's that's a great deal.

GPU - DLSS makes a big difference these days. I haven't kept up with AMD vs Nvidia but it does felt like team green pulled ahead in recent years. Especially if you have any interest in AI tasks as well.

AMD has FSR which works well

      • Not even close to DLSS though.

        • I'd call it close enough, unless you're wanting fake frames

        • FSR3 is supposedly releasing soon, I think it's expected to at least level things out

        • That’s because nvidia needs fake frames while they sell you 50 series cards as 60 ti

Yeh, I had a look at the Max variant of this case; tempting, but would be stretching my budget.

I think in terms of value, with the release and current pricing of the 7800XT, team Red seems to be the sensible option, especially over something like a 4070, which performs worse bar FG and RT.

I would personally advocate for a DDR5 System. Other than that looks okay

  • Pretty good build for an ITX. Like above said, I would opt for ddr5, but ddr5 boards isn't cheap

    • Edit: whoops didn't realise referral link was embedded from PC Partpicker.

Was saying that the cheapest one I could find was Gigabyte H610I (two versions, one DDR4 and one DDR5) for around $217. Eligible for 2 items -10% so if you can find another eligible item < $21.70, you pay even less.

N200 is 18.2 litre case. Consider mATX, InWin 301C is 25 L for example, not much bigger but takes full size PSU and cheaper MBs.

Get the NR200P Max, included is PSU, Wiring, IO $490 with discounts. Also comes with GPU lift

I got the same setup except i got i5 13600k for iGPU in case the GPU shit itself.

    I went with MSY motherboard.

    • May I ask what your temps have been whilst under load?

      • 32 degrees with max load, streaming, downloading. I dont have a GPU yet, so im not gaming on it atm.

    my comment (in bold):

    CPU: Intel Core i5-13600KF
Get 13600k in case of GPU failure
CPU Cooler: Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE
I doubt this will allow you stresstest/rendering without thermal throttle, but definitely good enough for gaming workload
MOBO: ASRock B660M-ITX/ac Mini ITX LGA1700
Gigabit Lan only, Most basic Audio, AC network not AX, 6 phase unknown VRM, I'd avoid this
    RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600
i'd go with 32G consider 16G really starts to show its age, and you didn't mention if this is 3600c18 or 3600c16
    Storage: Lexar NM790 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4
no comment, I'd go with original NAND manufacturer like Samsung/WD, but to be fair both have had drama before too not like they are much safer
GPU: Sapphire PULSE Radeon RX 7800 XT 16 GB
I'd go RTX4070 because you are using a ITX case and 4070 offer just a bit less performance and uses 50-100watt less depends
Case: Cooler Master NR200 Mini ITX
good case, I don't mind this
PSU: Cooler Master V750 SFX GOLD 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular SFX
good PSU, I don't mind this

    • Thanks for the comment, appreciate your insight. Will take another look at the RAM and CPU. Would something like this B660I be a better fit for the MOBO?

      • +1

if you got have to go with Intel, then this mobo is much more in my liking, though I still would like a Z-series mobo(Z690/Z790), because you can OC/undervolt it, in case if CPU's running too hot and you don't mind fiddle around.

  • I probably would lean towards AMD R5 7600 + b650 combo, I understand you'll get less CPU performance but also it only use 1/3 or 1/2 of the power 13600k use, ITX + heat up = hell.

    • For gaming the performance difference is pretty low. AMD CPUs are the sweet spot for small form factor gaming.

    • Not too familiar with undervolting; to my understanding, undervolting will allow for decreased temps and similar or improved CPU performance?

    • I've been looking for about a month. The cheapest z690 itx boards I can find so far are the Asrock and Gigabyte for $259:

      https://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/2PYmP6/asrock-z690m-itxa…
      https://www.umart.com.au/product/gigabyte-z690i-aorus-ultra-…

Both DDR4. Waiting for Prime Day and maybe even holding off until BF to see what comes up. Not sure if 14th gen Ks will shake up any pricing. Doubt it but here's to hoping :)

        • I'm looking to build a NAS with quicksync transcoding for Plex and Frigate so likely an i3 12100 or 13100 to replace an aging HP Microserver Gen8
