128GB mSATA Crucial SSD $107.42 + $24 AUD

140

Found this to be the best value for money mSATA drive I could find.

Cheapest alternate I could find locally was this from PPCG:

The reviews seem to indicate the m4 is a better drive.

I bought some 2x8GB RAM as well and shipping was unchanged.

This could be a great buy for all those who ordered the lenovo laptop from bhphotovideo.com

used google to do my exchange rates so the price may be a bit off

  • Mmmm, to go for the LiteOn 256GB one and hope it's a mSATA (like reported) for $170 or $235~ for a crucial…

    • I can guarantee that it is an mSATA drive in the Lite-ON. I was the guy who reported it with pictures attached.

Mmmm now the question to ask is, is $65 worth unknown reliability and less warranty…

Seems like only yesterday SSD mSATA drives were piddly 32GB drives which cost $500. Gotta say I am loving the price drops in SSD's lately.

    +1 OP good find

    • Really like the Msata form, hopefully more laptops / motherboards come with it in future

  • Damn why did nobody mention before that those liteons had real mSATA SSDs in them?

Might have to get one now lol.

  • It's a nice share

  • Can someone explain why you would buy one of these when you could just buy SATA SSD?
Appears mSATA is to SATA what eSATA is to USB …. Not much use/popularity

    • mSATA is much more than "eSATA is to USB". It opens up a whole new way to use storage products for ultrabooks and netbooks and would be more of a manufacturer demand thing at this point in time. It might not have much use for consumers right now and considering not many people know that you can do a mSATA+SATA boot or want to do such a thing. For enthusiasts they can use mSATA for their boot drive and a normal SATA drive for their storage and have both worlds. Or for small sized mSATA drives, used as a cache. Over the next few months I'm going to slowly add a second HDD to my laptop replacing the ODD and then adding an mSATA drive as a boot drive.

      • Being a bit new to SSD world, how do you replace the SATA drive in your laptop with an mSATA+SATA drive?

        • First off, your laptop needs to be mSATA compatible by having an mSATA slot. An mSATA SSD like this one in the OP would be installed in the mSATA slot and standard 2.5" drive will be installed in the HDD bay. How you set up the drives is up to you, you can choose to have the SSD to be the boot drive with a HDD in the HDD bay for storage or have the SSD be used as a cache for the HDD in the 2.5" bay.

How do you slowly add a 2nd HDD? Bit by bit? Or byte by byte?

        • I'm going to be buying the parts to do the installation individually. First the ODD to HDD bay, then the HDD, then the mSATA.

The HP Elitebook 2730p (and that family) takes only a mSATA disk.
Am sure there are other brands and models I am not aware of.

  • Cheers dude, gonna pick up one of these to slide in this.. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/79931

  • Are these mSATA SSD's compatible with 2011 macbook airs?

Is anyone here willing to do a group buy and combine postage on MSATA drives? The shipping to AU is $24.95 per order.

I've been wanting to get a 32GB MSATA as a cache drive for the lappy.

Still not sold on these and here's why, seems as good as having an ssd drive sata3, the advantage seems only if you have a mechanical drive aswell.

Interesting read slightly outdated ie sata 3

You may not see a boost in performance much(If you have a SSD already) but it will allow you to have an extra HDD in your laptop which is a major plus.
It will also allow you to run one SSD for just windows and essentials and the the other for everything else. Having a dedicated windows drive will allow everything to run a little faster.

  • Try here guys.. $124.49 + free delivery. Australian stock. They say last one available, but I just purchased one, went back and checked it and didn't say out of stock. http://www.ozgameshop.com/solid-state-drives/crucial-m4-128g…

That isn't Australian stock. It's a UK based company.

      • Ooops.. oh well.. shipped from aus anyways.

        • +1

Not shipped from AUS either. It takes around 10-14 days delivered from the UK.

        • -1

          Whatever..

      • Neither is OP… it's from the US.

  • Why do so many guys jerk off over crucial ???

    • They're the perfect combination between speed, price and most importantly reliability.

    • Not sure, which computer hardware brand are you aroused by?
