iPhone 15 Vs iPhone 14 Pro

Hi guys - keen to get people’s thoughts on getting the new iPhone 15 base model ($1500) or iPhone 14 pro ($1550). The 14 pro price has dropped by about 10% since the announcement of the new iPhone range.

I’ve done a comparison between the two modes and seems like specs are very similar. The 14 pro has display always on functionality and better battery whilst the iPhone 15 has USB-C charging.

I think I’m leaning towards the 14 pro especially if there is a nice cashback deal over the coming weeks (15 most likely be ineligible).

Thanks

Personally I'd get the 14 pro if only for the pro motion feature alone. Just keep in mind that the 14's battery degrades super quickly for some reason.

    • 100% this. It's criminal Apple still don't do 120hz screens on their non pro models.

I'd even go a 13 Pro over the 15 base model. While the 15 might be quicker the 13 pro will feel quicker due to the pro motion.

USB vs Lightning? meh whatever - chances are you've already got a lightning cable sitting around.

I wouldn’t buy a phone without a USB C port. Lightning is over, baby.

Pay the extra for a 15 pro, go on, you deserve it mate.

I’m in this camp. It’s probably the one device I use the most (I’m allowed to use phone at work). So a bit of extra cash for 3-4 years of better performance and camera is worth it.

    • Yeah you only live once, may as well pay the extra for arguably the best phone in the known universe.

Yeah you only live once, may as well pay the extra for arguably the best phone in the known universe.

Until the next over hyped, over priced fruit phone drops, then rinse and repeat. Profit, but not for you.

        • Exactly. A thousand a year to own the best phone in the world indefinitely isn’t so bad. Adjusted for inflation people used to spend a lot more on computers that were considered outdated in months. The fact the iPhone stays arguably the best phone in the world for 12 months is pretty good. I think even iphone 12 is faster in real world benchmarks than any android, or was until recently at least.

        • Meh, you lot love to generalise don’t you?
Not everyone chases the latest phone every year.
I’m still using my trusty iphone 11 (have had it since release) that I’m gonna give to a family member once I upgrade to the 15 when the hype cools down.
Considering I’ve been using it at least 2-5 hours a day over the last 4 years, and it still has some life left, the layout isn’t too crazy.
Original battery on the 11 is on 83% capacity so still perfect for the light user who’s getting it.

  • I was procrastinating the same thing. Pulled the trigger on a iPhone 15 pro. It’s only $300 more and you have the latest model.

      Plus titanium

      • +3

Yes, that and USB-C was enough to convince me.

      • Is titanium really preferred over glass by most? I thought people liked the glass when they switched from aluminium.

        • +1

Titanium replaced stainless steel, not glass. Titanium is lighter.

      • +1

        I am titanium

  • Have you tried Apple's comparator? In addition to your post, 14 Pro has the third camera lens and can be optioned to 1TB, 15 weighs somewhat less and comes in more colours. Hard to split them…

you are comparing oranges and pears. 2 different phones. you should compare pro vs pro.

    anyways,

if you don't do a lot of social media, i would get the 15.

if you do social media and post a lot, i would get the 14 pro.

    • Why is that? A better camera on the pro?

  • 14 Pro. Heck I might even take a 12 Pro over a base 15.

    Comparison from gsmarena web site

    https://m.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=12559&idPhone2=…

For me personally, I would go with the lighter weight phone. But that’s just me tho.

What do you consider no.1 important in a phone?
Start from this question & you might arrive at a best phone for you perhaps.

TIL a $1500 phone in the current year doesn't have always on display as standard.

    • pov phone costs over a fortnight of pay :')

How are you meant to buy any durries? It's not right.

        • +1

Forget the durries, what about the little white bags, multi’s on Sportsbet, and more chilli?

Thanks for all your comments - it’s been really helpful getting others perspectives.

I’m pretty lite social media user and have had the iPhone 12 base model which has met all my needs. Probably leaning towards the base 15 model. I can’t justify the additional $350 as I doubt will notice any different between using the 15 pro and 15 base.

    • I too have a 12. Its compelling feature (along with 12 mini)? Comes in a 64GB variant. Every other iPhone thereafter starts at 128GB. To everyone who asks me about getting a refurb iPhone and spending as little as possible, I recommend 12 or 12 mini.

    • What's wrong with your 12?

  • I am surprised at how similarly priced everything from the 12 to the 15 is. My 11 Pro is worn out and I need a new one but man those prices…

    • Buy excellent refurbished from Mobile Federation on eBay

I'd go the 15, USB C is better for the long term and there have been issues with 14 Pro batteries. But the biggest reason is the weight, the 14 pro is an absolute brick! 15 will be significantly lighter in your pocket and hand whilst still being the same screen size.

  • +1

To me it comes down to better display (always on, 120hz) and extra camera, versus USB-C.

I’d probably take the 14 Pro even if losing USB-C would be a tough pill to swallow. If you only use the cable for charging it’s manageable, and I think the nicer display that you’ll interact with all the time and impacts the device while in use is worth the trade off.
