    Why is your hosting better?

e.g. Crucial Paradigm, which I've used personally and I believe OzBargain uses/used has a similar plan:

    $3/month for a year.

Same as yours, except 250GB of transfer.

    • -1

      Wrong sir wrong.

Ozbargain would go to the shithouse on a shared hosting plan.

They utilise VPS infrastructure at Crucial.

      • LOL. I didn't mean OzBargain was on the $3/month plan. I just meant OzBargain uses Crucial as did I…until I found something cheaper.

        • In that case. Touche.

Protip: Crucial gives this VPS to OzBargain for free =]

Also keep in mind that link you provided was for Crucial in the US, which is cheaper for a reason.

    • Hi Neil.

I've responded to your question below, as I missed the "reply" button.

    Hi Neil.

I've used Crucial in the past, and they are indeed a reasonable service. We didn't base our offer on theirs (and I wasn't even aware of their deal until you mentioned it).

From personal experience though - I'd challenge them to offer a 99.95% uptime guarantee, with a real SLA. Further to that - a guaranteed 1 hour response time to sales and support email tickets, also with a real SLA.

By real SLA I mean that some companies offer "SLAs" of 99.9%, then when they break them and only achieve 99%, they refund 0.9% of the monthly plan price (ie. cents). We do a full month refund on any issues with fulfilling our SLA.

That's a real "We perform, or your money back" type deal, and we back it 100%.

I'll go as far as saying, when other services back up their claims like ServersINseconds does, I hope people remember who moved first.

If you have any further questions, or would like me to expand on what I've said, just let me know.

  • hostpapa, webhostinghub, fatcow offer $3.95/month for unlimited everything. extremewebhosting (host in au) had a similar price for unlimited of everything. so what are different of yours compare to others? (except less disk space & bandwidth)

PS. unlimited for everything means unlimited disk space, unlimited bandwidth, unlimited email, unlimited addon domain, unlimited mysql, etc etc

      Hi andyken.

I've responded to your post below. I missed the "reply" button.

    • all of those are offshore services, it seems SIS's services are situated in ACT, Australia…

This is purpose based wither for businesses or particular individuals who want Australian based hosting, of course you can get any US based hosting from $1/mth with all the bells and whistles, but they have their own drawbacks…

Besides its 3.95/mth on a 12,24,36 months term, its double that if you want to pay monthly.

      • That's correct Elijah, our datacentre is in the ACT.

Given the bandwidth pricing differences between Australian and US hosting, it's a pretty big difference to US services.

    • +1

      And unlimited overselling!

  • Hi andyken.

I don't have personal experience with the hosts you mentioned, but I would refer you to the comment above.

    We do:
A REAL Uptime SLA - full monthly payment back for any breakages. That's serious incentive to make good on our plans.
A REAL email and ticket support SLA - again a full monthly refund if there's any issues.

We are different, and we're proud of being so.

Give us a chance and you'll see first-hand what we're talking about.

It's been a while since I've been on Ozbaragain, so sorry for not "threading" my responses above.

  • I've just realised that I've mentioned ServersINseconds' SLA without providing a link to it.

    You may see it here:

  • Hello, I'm shopping for a new host right now since the dreamhost deal from a year ago is about to run out ;)

I'm just curious how you define "add-on" domains. Does this mean a different domain, but sharing the same website home? Ie you can have 16 domains all pointing to the same website? Reason I ask is that I have 2 domains with 2 separate homes currently on one dreamhost account (one of which I rarely use and could live without). Would this require 2 x $3.50 a month for the same setup?

  • +1

    Hi Sloppy.

We use "add-on" domains the same as cPanel does - one cPanel account, multiple domain names pointing at different websites on the one account.

So to have two domain names pointed to two different pages on your webspace, you'd only need one account.

$3.50 per month will get you a lot!

    • Sweet, I will give you a try.

      Cheers :)

  • The question was asked before but I don't think it was answered. Is your server on this $3.50 plan hosted in Australia? If so which datacenter?

    Thanks

    • +1

      Hi goober.

Sorry if I missed a question.

The plans are hosted in Australia, in the TransACT datacentre in Canberra.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

      • +1

On the website it says server location is in Sydney

        • +1

My apologies - I've made a mistake. When I visited our datacentre guys they took me on a tour of the TransACT facility, and I assumed that the servers would be there as well. They are actually in the Global Switch datacentre in Sydney at:
          Global Switch
          400 Harris Street
          Ultimo NSW

          Sorry for the confusion.

        • lol, thanks for the clarification :)

  • +1

$22/6 months to host a domain with you?? Not even to register it, just to host the domain???

    • Sorry $22/2 years to transfer the domain to you … it;s already registered …

      • +2

If you're talking about transferring the actual domain name to us, and making us your domain registrar, it's $22 for two years. This includes an additional two years registration.

If you just want to transfer the hosting, there's an option below that to just transfer the hosting to us.

        • +1

ok, I see. I just assumed you would take on the domain for free as I would of course be likely to renew it with you when its due.

All good though, I can keep it where it is I guess.

Thanks for the clarification mate, I will still be giving you a try :)

        • +1

Sounds good Sloppy. I'll speak with the guys about offering domain transfers (without the additional 2 year renewal) for free.

It'll probably take a week or two to get implemented if it gets the thumbs up.

Thanks for helping to clarify for everyone.

    • ahhh that's the catch! No deal then. Most providers charge $0 for that.

      • I'm hopeful that it's a mistake … but will wait for the rep to respond …

      • +3

The transferring of the domain name to us includes an additional 2 years of registration.

This is of course optional, you can keep your domain name at it's current registrar and just switch hosting.

There is no "catch". What you see is what you get.

I'm happy to clarify anything other questions you may have.

  • hi rep
my hosting with dreamhost is about to expire
how would i go about transferring my hosting and domain to you? i dont want to pay that domain transfer fee
but if i cancel dreamhost, then i think that cancels the domain hosting too? although i actually bought the domain from netregistry
so does that mean i can use netregistry as the registar, cancel dreamhost, point the dns servers to yours and move the hosting files to your site?

do you offer any one click installs like wordpress and ecommerce stuff?

    • Hi furythree.

      Thanks for considering ServersINseconds.

If you purchased your domain name with NetRegistry, then it should all be fine for you to cancel your dreamhost account. If you send us a message to [email protected] we can check who your current registrar is for you, to ensure your domain name stays with them.

Assuming it's still with NetRegistry, then yes, it's just a matter of uploading your site to our servers and then pointing the DNS servers to ours.

We've got the one-click installs that cPanel supports as standard (there's WordPress and several others) but no third-party software yet. It's still simple to setup a package you want specifically though.

Let us know if you have any further questions, and I'll do my best to answer them here for you. As it's getting late, you can always contact [email protected] for enquiries you have through the night if I'm not on here. I'll get to them here tomorrow morning otherwise.

I think you can find better value for a shared hosting plan elsewhere, iPage now offering AUD $2.95/ month with Unlimited everything compare to above offer PLUS you will get 1 year registration of .com domain name for FREE - http://tinyurl.com/iPage-web

    • I had a look at iPage and they seem to be US based servers. We're not trying to compete with "unlimited everything" US hosts, as it costs money to provide the services and support we do.

If you find "better value" elsewhere then, hey, sign-up with them. I'd still say that ServersINseconds is extraordinary value for AU hosting with the features, support, and SLA we provide.

Everyone will have their own opinions though, and I encourage people to base their views of us by actually trying our services.

    • +2

You cannot compare USA based hosts with Australian hosts. Good luck with that "UNLIMITED Everything", please upload 200TB and see how long before they kick you off their server. I personally don't care for ServersINseconds deal, but I am sick to death of every time someone posts a deal on here for an Australian based web hosting deal at least 10 fools jump on "…but I can get UNLIMITED everything from Joe Bloggs in the USA….". Compare Apples with Apples.

  • Hi, how long is this deal for? I still have 9 months to go with my current hosting provider (Aussie-based), which costs me $88 per year and only provides:

    200 Meg Disk Space
    25 Email Boxes
    3000 Meg Transfers
    CGI - PHP - MYSQL(3)
    Webmail, Spam Filtering

    • Hi Meld.

      Thanks for considering our offer.

It's only valid until 21/09/2012. Considering the value we're offering compared with your current plan, it might be worth the move early.

      Thanks again.

      • Does the price stay at $3.50/month after the year is up?

        • +1

The deal is only available for the first year. In the second year the price would go up $0.50 per month to $4 a month.

I'm confident in saying that as we'll live up to our service offerings, you'll see that the extra $0.50 will be well spent in keeping your service with us.

  • Does it offer an ssh access? I hate web hosting without ssh access as I hate transferring files using ftp!

    • Unfortunately not. Our security guys (who are seriously paranoid, and that's a good thing) deemed it a security risk that's not worth taking.

You'd have to use FTP or the web based file manager for uploads.

      • +1

I'm sorry but are you telling me that your system admin is not competent enough to control shell users?

You can basically run any command you can run in ssh with cron anyway. If you only allow user to login using public/private key, it's virtually very hard to brute force ssh, unless of course the private key was stolen, which is why it is always a good practice to have passphrase in your private key.
Additionally, SSH is obviously more secure than ftp. Ftp credentials can be easily sniffed because they are not encrypted unless of course you are using sFTP.

There are so many advantageous of ssh, serious web developer would use it for scripted deployments, creating symlinks, mysql deployment, etc.. I would personally not consider web hosting without ssh access.

For comparison, GoDaddy includes ssh access in their web hosting. (I don't actually use their service)

        • I'm sure our system administration team can secure SSH, but we've made the decision not to offer it to clients at this stage. If that's a deal breaker for you, then I'll pass that information on to my colleagues for review.

Agreed about sFTP, for the exact reason you mentioned.

        • Yup deal breaker. I found another australian hosting which offers SSH from $5/month

        • +1

No worries adrn. As I said I'll speak to my colleagues about the situation and we may consider offering SSH in the future. Good luck with your new host.

  • Just wondering on the reseller account, is the disk usage / monthly transfer limit applied for one account? I wonder why cheaper web hosting has unlimited transfer but $28 reseller won't have unlimited transfer

    • Hi adrn.

      Thanks for considering ServersINseconds' services.

The reseller accounts have the limits on disk space and bandwidth usage applied to to whole reseller account, and can be divided amongst your client's accounts as you see fit.

The two smaller reseller accounts do have limits on transfer, but are quite generous anyway. The pricing structure was designed so that reseller clients who are pushing that much transfer are on a reasonably priced plan. We've got very competitive rates, and need to have some limits.
