Looking for a bang for buck portable SSD. Looking for a balance between small size, speed, and storage size for ~$150 give or take.

Wait for the Samsung T7 2TB to go back on sale for around $180.

The Crucial X8 2Tb referred to by @freefall101 is a very well-reviewed no-frills SSD that seems to be the best option at the moment for the casual user. Some people (e.g pro photographers) may need extra-ruggedised drives but they cost a bomb.
