I was reading through the July transparency and stats report and saw that entries for comps are counted, plus I was surprised to recently receive a silver Popular Competition badge out of the blue. I dunno why I never noticed it before but there's a little counter near the top of each comp post showing number of entries (plus number of winners). I'm curious how Entries and Winners are counted. Clicking the '+' button is an obvious method, but what action counts as an 'entry' or a 'winner'?
How Are Comp Entries & Winners Counted?

Mark as entered?
Mark as won?As the others have said, under the 'Go to Comp' button on a comp page, there's;
Mark as seen
Mark as entered
Mark as won (after you've pressed Mark as entered)
All relies on user to manually press these buttons, otherwise it won't be tracked. Upvotes and clicks do not count as entries, though the former does contribute to the 'Popular Competition' badge (150 entries/upvotes total)
I wondered about that. So, it's still depending on someone manually performing an action. Makes sense, I guess.
FWIW, I checked and the 'Mark as Won' button hasn't appeared on any recent comps I've entered so I suspect that only comes up after the closing date.
Yes we programmed it so that the 'mark as winner' option only appears when winning is possible. For example after the closing date or after the prize draw date if one is set. Whereas for instant win comps you can claim as a winner immediately after entering.

You can nominate that you have 'entered' a competition and even when you 'win'. that's how.
