Upgrade path for an RX470 8GB

Been running an RX470 8GB since they came out and while it is mostly okay, it is struggling more and more now. Hardware Unboxed were not a fan of the RX7600. It is a shame that in the 7 years since the RX470 release, GPUs are still coming with 8GB VRAM.

8GB was overkill in 2016, now it's the minimum (thus on entry level cards). If you're looking for a proper upgrade, I'd go higher up the food chain. The 7700XT is a big jump up, the difference between "I just want a machine that plays games" and "I want a machine that plays games well".

Just a shame the first category still involves spending way too much cash these days.

    • Yeah, this is kind of where I was thinking too. Or the 7800 XT. But they are $800-900. Seems crazy how much they have gone up over the years.

      Thanks

I think you need a goal or constraint.

    What is your budget?
    What is your resolution?
Do you need high refresh rate?

    • True, good point. I'm running two 4k monitors, but I'm only playing most things at 1080p with low settings. I don't mind playing at 1080p, so by no means would I want an RX 7900 XTX. One of the monitors is 144Hz too, but I only drive it at 60Hz, so again, not too fussed about that. as for budget, I guess I was open to suggestions around what would actually count as an upgrade, and then decide if they fall within what might be "reasonable". I don't think it'd ever be something around $1,000 though. That's nearly as much as every other component in the system combined.
