For those in the Imou/Dahua ecosystem here's a newly released camera with some pretty good specs and finally Power over Ethernet support - something a lot of Imou cameras lack. Plus they've added WiFi 6 support. If you don't have PoE this one is available with an AU plug.

The camera features a 5MP sensor with 2880x1620 (3K) resolution, 3.6mm fixed lens, IR night vision up to 30m, motion & human detection, two-way audio, 8x digital zoom, IP66 water resistance, Ethernet with PoE and WiFi 6 with dual antennas.

For recording the camera has a microSD slot, RTSP/ONVIF/NVR support including Imou/Dahua/Blue Iris etc, Imou Cloud and playback through the Imou app.

The biggest sell points for me lately on Imou is actually the new ones seem to be using 12v as standard over the old 5v ones like the looc series.

Recently replaced an old looc with new cruiser se+ 4mp and extended the cable out to 8m with a thicker double insulated cable. Will probably eventually replaced the included power supply with a weatherproof one and add some strip lights into the garden area to go under my decking.

    • Where did you buy your extension cable from? I got a cheap eBay one and the voltage drop must be quite a lot causing stability issues with my 2C

      • I got it from work, it was an off cut

        Nothing crazy, double insulated 1.5mm

  • @Clear I am newbie to these cameras and have got technical background. Any suggestions or recommendations for the live monitoring without using internet I have got raspberry pi if there is any solution using that?
    Thanks in Advance!

    • Imou have rtsp streams. You don't need internet or the app once you've set it up. I have had occassional stability issues with my two cameras. They need to be rebooted periodically otherwise the streams stop and presumably the recording.

      • to set up internet and app needed? and after setup how it works? streaming and recording to where?

  • Waiting for the Rex 3D 5MP deal again please Clear :)

  • Wonder if could throw this camera up in a rental hmmmm since don't have PoE would need to plug it in

    • Yeah, why not? Usb is easy

      • Tempting purchase, not allowed to drill holes in the outside bricks though so gotta figure something out. Maybe strong 3m VHB adhesive tape might do the trick?

Can you mount to a pole, beam or tree?

I used uv rated zip ties to temporarily put up an Imou bullet (original model) on a beam of patio - but it’s been a year and still fine (I just cbf drilling into brick at that location)

@Jimothy Wongingtons: I have poles in the patio so that could work! Thank you will give that a go.. unfortunately no outside electrical sockets so will have to figure out a way to get it inside the house ..

            • @adrianhughes1998: how far you reckon?

if it's something like 10m you will want something like 1mm^2 cable minimum to achieve (in theory) <5% voltage drop , and will need some tools like cable stripper, resin heatshrink and a lighter at minimum.

if too much effort, you might need to look at a solar setup.

@Jimothy Wongingtons: Looking at least that hey to get to power 😞. Thank you for the advice yeah probably battery or solar setup I think :(

How do these compare to Reolink?

  • Very happy with my 6 of these up to now thanks @Clear, running very nice with internet access blocked via Blue Iris.
