Split Extension Lead to Fit through Small Hole?

Hi all, looking for some help finding the right extension cable or solution to my issue!

I need to run an electrical appliance inside an incubator. I have previously run the cable out the door, but it puts a lot of force on the door seal and hinge by forcing the door to close over the cable.

There's a narrow circular opening in the top of the incubator which is maybe 30-35 mm diameter. It's too small to fit the end of the cable through it, so I was hoping to find an extension lead that can be 'split' to fit through the hole and reconnected, sort of like the banana plug concept but rated to 240v + 10A

Alternatively, I can grab a male plug end and wire it up myself once the cable has been run through the hole, but as it's at my workplace I'd prefer something certified (edit: and also prefer it to be easily separated and the extension cable removed from the incubator)

Cheers

    • Bet me too it!

    • Sounds explosive

    • Thanks! Looks like this might just fit

I often use an IEC lead with a IEC to 240v

I've used it for running up + down walls and small holes. Might solve your problem.

Yep this is looking like the best option. Cheers

  • Being at your workplace you need to get advice from a licenced electrical contractor.

Not if you use certified cables and don't modify them.

      • But what if it's a water-jacketed incubator? No one should be tooling around with 240V at work. What you do at home is another matter…

        • "I have previously run the cable out the door"

          was OK previously…

          • @jv: Yep, no workplace death reported as far as we know.

        • Fair, but it's not. Dry incubator

  • Alternatively, I can grab a male plug end(bunnings.com.au) and wire it up myself once the cable has been run through the hole, but as it's at my workplace I'd prefer something certified

Basically what you have said, cut the end off, feed it through and put a new end. If you want it certified, then get a sparky to do the work.

cut the end off, feed it through and put a new end.

illegal if you are not licenced. Can also void your insurance policy.

Keep reading….I know its hard for some, but if you do you'll get to the bit that said get a sparky to do it so its certified.

  • What is the appliance you are powering?
