A bit different to the ebay deal posted yesterday. These deals include an extra set of filters which give them a lower total cost of ownership at two years.
That is entirely because the filters are so expensive and you need two per unit.
And they're still expensive here! But this deal also includes volume discounts if you guys want one for each room or buying them for your work.
My two cents:
I've used both these and the Winix Zero+ 5 stage everyday since early 2021.
The Samsungs in my office are scheduled to run 5 days a week 7am-6pm and the filters have only been replaced once. After a year they're still a light grey colour.
If you want to min/max it, the top filter pulls more air through it, so once a month when you wash the prefilter you can swap top and bottom around.
And if you're only turning them on during bushfire season then really the filters would stretch out over a few years. You wouldn't need to replace them every year.
I do find the Winix better for the bedroom because it has a light sensor that automatically puts it into sleep mode when it goes dark. The Samsung needs you to press the button.
The Winix's PM sensor is more aggressive too, which I think makes it better for dust or pet hair. Whereas the Samsung seems to only turn up when it detects harmful particles or gases. So this will come down to your use case and what you want out of it.
The Winix does only needs 1 filter and you can get them for ~$150. I replace them about once a year, but they don't get as much traffic as the Samsungs so take that as you will.
There's no smart function on the Winix and they're currently on sale at $400 from ausclimate ( https://ausclimate.com.au/products/zero-pro-5-stage-air-puri… ) but even then its a bit harder to justify when the Samsungs are currently so heavily discounted.
Edit: I buggered up the link and title.
Mate would you recommend these for secondhand smoke? Or is there something better?
