On sale is this new release tablet from Teclast that has some decent specs for a tad under A$160 if you're after something for general use, light gaming, media consumption or for the kids to use. It's also good to see new budget tablets are opting for 8GB RAM and 256GB storage.

Featuring Android 13 with Google Play, 10.1" 1920x1200 IPS display with 350nits brightness, 8GB RAM, 256GB storage (microSD support), UNISOC T616 Octa-core CPU, 6000mAh battery, USB-C, 4G LTE with Dual SIM, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, quad speakers, 3.5mm audio jack, WiFi ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and weighs 435g.

Unfortunately there's no mention of Widevine L1 DRM for Netflix HD - assume it's L3.

  • Nice specs for 4G tablet

    • I had to double check it was actually 8GB RAM and not 4GB + 4GB swap. Normally I'd expect a lower resolution screen or a T606 at this price. Last year this would have been an extra US$80 at least.

  • Is it better than Samsung Tab A8?

    • +1

Tab A8 will give you a larger 10.5" display, OTA updates (unsure if it will go past Android 13), the higher clocked T618 CPU and larger 7040mAh battery. The main downsides is less RAM (3GB or 4GB) and less storage (64GB or 128GB).

So you could say the Tab A8 is better, but for $230-$300 you can often get other brands with better hardware.

How did I miss that one? Perhaps the Spanish? That's insane value considering the cheapest price last year was US$179.99. It'll be stuck on Android 11 forever though.

Techtablets did a good review 2 years ago. No Widevine L1 (as expected), 10W slow charging, poor cameras/mic and no 3.5mm audio jack.

It's worth its own post ;)

        Got for it

It'll be stuck on Android 11 forever though.

        How about LineageOS 21

        • +1

No one ever released a custom ROM for this, unlike the iPlay 30 that got a Pixel Experience ROM. I've seen on xda-developers people experimenting with Project Treble to run a stock AOSP ROM on this but it hasn't progressed very far due to various issues.

I honestly prefer the Android 11 notification bar and menu over Android 12/13. Such a massive step backwards.

  • i wish they'd bumpt the price by $20-30 and give a mre modern CPU so it would last longer

    • I dont have any trouble in that department

  • So the deal is over now?
