Melbourne CBD accommodation.. Novotel on Collins or others?

Hi Guys,
I'm looking for the cheapest rate for a 4.5-5star hotel in melbourne cbd. Travel dates are between 28th-30th October 2012.. so two nights accommodation. I sort of had my eye on the Novotel Melbourne on Collins which included buffet brekky for $228.65p/n. Was there any cheaper way of getting this hotel.. even if it means signing up with something. For example, like when wotif had their sign up to the news letter and get $20 credit. My flights are booked as well.

Or is there an entertainment book voucher that someone is not going to use?

Thanks in advance,
Kimba =)

Wotif mystery deals. Usually pretty easy to work out where they are. Sometimes a good saving from the prices for the listed hotel. Also look at allthedeals under travel and scoopon etc as we have purchased some pretty good deals there.

    • How do you work out where the mystery deals are?

      • they tell you if it's in the cbd or not… We got the grand Hyatt once for about $240/$260 I think.

        • Yeah but from that you can't tell which hotel it is. You need more info. Is there another way you can tell?

  • Well search the stated features, like 4 star self rated, indoor pool, on site car parking. Both times we have booked a mystery deal, we searched on another tab on Wotif the features we were 'looking for' and it was pretty easy to narrow the search down and pinpoint the hotel. Both times correctly. Even google the features. One last year was quite funny stating something like "Mystery deal so we can't tell you where it is…" and then to the side of the same page "Mantra Exhibition is a non smoking hotel." Gee, I wonder if it was Mantra Exhibition??

    Like this one http://www.wotif.com/hotel/View?hotel=M2202&page=1&adults=0&…
    Sounds like the Stamford Plaza

Check it out and see if you agree.
We have stayed there before on mystery deal and was really worth it.

  • I recently got the Marriott for $180 on a mystery deal. I have done a few mystery deals and always worked out what hotel by copying and pasting the description into google

these are the best value hotels in the melb cbd imo (better and cheaper than novotel, stamford):

    Grand Hotel MGallery Collection

    Hotel Lindrum

    Hotel Causeway

if you have a visa card then http://visa.phoenixhotelnetwork.com is even cheaper than wotif :)

cant stress enough, that unless you really want breakfast in your room, there are better places for breakfast, no matter where you are in the cbd

  • Ok, so i ended up booking a hotel.. The Langham Hotel. I saw the $30 off webjet voucher and almost jumped on other hotels.. but then saw The Langham at $234.. minus the $30 is $204. I then saw on the Langham Hotel website that they will beat prices by 25% if found cheaper within 24hrs. The Langham were advertising at around $238 and wotif had it at $234 also. So i rang up the hotel and they beat it over the phone as a nice gesture (usually you have to do it online). So for the 28th of October i booked The Langham hotel for $175.50.

For my second night, they were not willing to price beat over the phone, so i had to take the risk and do it online (reason it was risky was because of the lengthy terms and conditions that i didn't understand properly). The Langham had the 29th of October at $259.25. Webjet and another website had it for $259. Only 25c cheaper.. hence why i thought it was a bit risky too. The Langham have since honoured it and beaten the price to make my second night $194.

So, two nights accommodation in a 5 star, #1 Trip advisor rated hotel cost me $369.50. Not bad i think. So my advice is to double check the actual Hotels website before booking on wotif.com or whatever website you're on, to see if they will price beat it.

Now, my next question, does anyone have an opinion on The Melba Restaurant buffet breakfast or know how i can get a discounted breakfast there (whether its through an entertainment voucher or not). The buffet breakfast is worth $40, but i think i'm pretty keen to try it =)
