Didn't they stop making these in Italy or something?
They went into administration some years ago. Either refinanced or sold to another company.
Basically what happened to most of the leading companies in italy thanks to the new generation coming in and selling everything their parents left for them for a quick profit.. excellent businesses and names, build on hard work and care for quality, sold at the market from the ones they did nothing for them. A sad state of affairs that reflects the condition of a country. No amount of sugar will make that coffee cup less sour for the ones that know.. end of rant lol
Bialetti's problems have nothing to do with kids trying to sell things "for a quick buck", and everything to do with capsule machines. Ten years ago, capsule machines started eating into their profits, presenting an existential crisis for Bialetti, so they decided to go into the capsule business themselves, at significant cost, and it didn't pan out.
Meanwhile, cheap knock-off Moka pots with faux-Italian names became even more prevalent, and even in Italy, people were happy to buy them based on their cheaper price.
When you have one segment of your market abandoning your product for capsule machines, and price-conscious buyers opting for knock-offs, you don't have much scope to make money with what's left.
In the end, the company was refinanced and it's still a going concern, but any selling-off has more to do with keeping the lights on and less to do with making a quick buck (any bucks they make will probably go to pay off the debts incurred by the capsule machine misadventure).
Don't work on induction do they?
It can will their additional induction plate.
there's an induction version for an extra 10 bucks on amazon. (Bialetti Moka Induction Coffee Maker, 2 cup, Red)
more for smaller? not on sale?
Get the stainless steel base one. They have a round base rather than hexagonal
I have the stainless steel one (8 cup), rounded bottom and smooth rounded sides . Paid about $45-50 last year at Myers as it was older stock.
Take it on holidays with a small portable induction hotplate. How many people / cups do you find that's good for? Typically making for 2 ppl and we both like a big cup… looking at the "6 cup" version
It's big enough for about 3 decent sized coffees.
@d2567: so 3 cup is not 3 cup? If it's 8 cup, do you need to make 8 cups or can you run it lower?
@Jackson: Put less water in the bottom and a little less coffee above. Then I make 2 coffees ( about 150-200 ml).
This one is probably better as induction friendly

It's stainless steel 6 cup and says it's 235 mls coffee produced.
Or this beauty is 170 mls( 4 cup)

☕️👍
Nice
Stay away from aluminium….
I was thinking the same. Might be better off with the stainless steel version
I bought the Stainless Steel Version as a friend said the aluminium wasn't the best
Which one is that? I can't tell as the descriptions say both Aluminium and stainless
@cumova: their stainless steel ones
Hmmmm…
I think I have an OG one and I gotta be honest the material does seem like aluminium.
Going to die?
Why? From a quick glance it seems that they are perfectly fine for normal use.
If I were to guess. Aluminium is more porous than stainless steel.
How does this make expresso? It's just mocka pot by the looks of things.
Very quickly
Yeah, will make "espresso like" coffee
Correct, this is the express coffee model
Warning. Supports 1 person only.
Find that 1 cup is equivalent to 1 espresso shot. Wife and I need at minimum a 6 cup model to each have a small coffee when camping.
Thanks OP. got one.
Thanks OP, Got one. Now need instructions and coffee :)
Basically:
Step 1: Pour boiling water into the base, to just underneath the round steam release valve
Step 2: Fill basket with ground coffee so it's level (I think this is the same size as mine, I use 18g of coffee)
Step 3: Use a dishcloth/kitchen towel to hold the base while you screw the top on, so you don't burn your hand. Using boiling water speeds up the heating process.
Step 4: Put on stovetop, let it brew and take off when ready (you can hear it gurgling when it's done).I used this guide, which will explain everything you need to know in more detail:
James Hoffman Moka Pot Guide
6 cup, Stainless Steel version seems like a better option at $44?
https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B07ZKZXM4BCan the induction or stovetop version be used on like a hotplate/grill if I were to go camping?
The induction/steel version you can use with anything, as long as you're careful and don't heat the handle.
Heads up for anyone buying, this will make coffee for 1 person.
I use a 6-cup bialetti to make coffee for 2.Only if that person drinks 3 coffees at a time lol
Mine just arrived. Anyone else feel the quality is not very good?
Maybe should’ve gone with stainless steel… (yet to make a coffee though)Meh - the Chinese knockoffs are way better.
Thanks op
