Pro Tip: Buy a 1TB NVME SSD and then buy a $15 enclosure off Amazon and boom. A $80-100 NVME External SSD

      • +2

Speed and versatility aside, I would trust solid state with my data much more than a hard drive. Especially a portable one.

        • +5

To be fair data recovery is easier on a hard drive than a failed solid state drive. Even something as simple as a deleted file.

          • +2

@Clear: Added if you try to archive data, but don't intend to power it on for ages….

        • just do not touch Sandisk SSD with a 10ft pole. Massive issues.

      • +3

Regrdless, for $70 odd this is 20- 30% plus cheaper than an ssd solution and less hassel

Not 30%. Amazon right now 1TB SSD can be had for about $65. Enclosure add $15 (less if willing to wait longer for delivery) so less than $80.

        • Problem is those ssds are probably QLC with no dram, and old controllers.
Meaning if you wanna FILL the drive, as opposed to do burst writes, the HDD will actually be quicker. (For example, writing a large backup)

      • If this is a traditional spinning disc hard drive, then no. Should be buying at least a SATA SSD for this price range now a day. Speed alone kills it.

        @mickyb08,

It is pretty easy to go to the store and do a change of mind return tomorrow!

  • +2

    Terrible value TB/$.

  • +13

I thought this was a 1tb portable ssd, 80 bucks for 1tb HDD is horrible mate. I expect 3tb at this price.

Sounds like this was posted to help justify the purchase.

No way this is even a deal!

Like others have mentioned - SSD or NVMe drive with an enclosure is the way to go.

    1TB SSD for $52.8.

1TB HDD for $77 is NOT a good deal

    • +7

I wouldn’t touch that Kogan crap either.

      • +1

Yes, buying a reasonably priced SSD from a known brand and add an enclosure should be the safer bet.

      • Sold by BUSOCO

        BUSOCO crap*

  • +1

    OP got absolutely finessed

  • +3

Thought this was an SSD when I first saw this. Apparently not.

Much better deals out there, especially when it comes to something more reliable like SSD's.

  • +3

going by how rushed the OP was, inclusion of google tracking parameter in the deal URL and their profile location of 'on a plane' I'm guessing they're planning to fly out pretty soon but needed storage, Google searched "portable hard drive" and found a sponsored ad, dashed out to Kmart to buy one and then posted a deal for their newfound purchase.

Protip: don't forget your passport and try to arrive at the airport 2 hours early.

  • +4

Wow, HDD? not at this price.

  • +1

It pains me when respected regulars on OzBargainers post a terrible deal. Confusing even more so as their previous comments suggest they are techsavy

As per already noted, just get an SSD with an enclosure, will definitely cost you less. Not HDDs, especially at such a terrible TB/$.

  • +3

It's ok OP return it. Kmart are good with returns. What you cant return is the shame Ozbargain is hanging on you

  • +8

    Crucial BX500 1TB $68
ORICO 2.5 inch Hard Drive Enclosure $11.89

    Total $79.89

    These comments are lit

  • +2

If it met your requirements and you accomplished what you needed to, which sounded urgent, then its money well spent!

  • What the? Didn't realize it was HDD. Thought it was ssd

  • -7

ha ha - y'all are still the same old crazy tight@r$es… and thats all good.

The OP - me… stated it purely and simply…

    Needed in a hurry.
    Needed external.
Didn't want SSD in a case or to shag around either with 'making something'…
    No stores open…
If I could be ar5ed, had time, and all that crap, I'd have simply ordered something directly from a disty myself, but as per the original post - didnt…

Reason for OzB post - 'This product' at $77 is cheap, compared to any other listing found for the same product (regardless of the store being open or not).
So on account of the item its self, its a good buy.

If you dont want or cant justify buying something thats usually at a higher price, regardless of your preserved 'value' in the item, simply dont. It's really that easy.

    FYI - https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=564153836&rlz=1C1ONGR_…

Find it cheaper, please post and list accordingly. :)

Thats all from me on this one.

    • +7

Micky just stop it mate 😂. You're just digging yourself a bigger hole. What is so urgent that you need a HDD tonight! Lol.

      • havent seen your mug for a while mate

and to answer, probably backing up/transferring corn to free up space

    • +1

Too late, K-Mart stores are closed now :p

Anyway your deal is "targeted" towards people who need an external hard drive urgently earlier tonight. Even then they might as well spend money on an SSD drive, which is a better investment in long run.

      • Too late, K-Mart stores are closed now :p

They're all mostly 24/7 here. Kmart is a whole different world after 12am.

  • I still have the verbatim lifetime floppy disks, they are all have errors, not sure where to get refund or replacement.

  • Overpriced for a HDD

  • Yeah, this isn't a deal in 2023

  • I still love the small form factor VAVA 1TB Portable External SSD Touch deal in July last year. Great buy.

  • -1

    not a deal

  • is it USB powered ?
