Every time I see these advanced buy gift cards it reminds me of dick smith and that the company offering them “going bust”. Am I just too old and cynical now?

    • +3

First thought for me too. If it's not an error then they don't plan to stay around long…

    • +1

That plus the fact they have been having near constant 30-40% off sales for the past few months is a bit weird. Hope they aren't going anywhere!

      • +5

Theyve been having those 40% off sales for the last 5plus years i've been shopping with them.

    • +6

Hasn't SurfStitch gone under once already before?

    • +3

      Immediate thought, someone's going bankrupt

    • i was thinking the same, so i will pass on this deal.

What’s the best payment method to use to protect from impending insolvency

      Credit card…

      • Better then PayPal?

        • +1

          Creditcard through PayPal?

          • +3

@capslock janitor: Doing a chargeback against PayPal is a great way to get banned from PayPal.

            • @Zorlin: Which isn’t much of a loss because PayPal is cancer

              • @cheekymonkey97: Why? Genuinely curious why it sucks.

                • +7

@Meconium: The way they treat their customers, limit accounts and lock your money even though you’ve gone through KYC, and then when you exercise your rights under Australian law they turn around and ban you because you didn’t let them bend you over

                  • @cheekymonkey97: Fair enough - I'm not an eBay seller but I understand sellers' complaints. I just haven't used PayPal very much, though I have used it for over 20 years, and it's provided a useful enough service. But I do agree with the outrageous amount of power such corporations have these days - PayPal as a fintech company is one thing, but banks in Australia always treated the customer terribly and still do, there's just more competition now…

PayPal don't cover gift card purchases, AFAIK

  • Would this be stackable with Shopback 2.8% Cashback, or Cash rewards new (4.2% new customer) existing customer 2.8% Cashback?

  • -1

Any stackable promo codes to enter?

    • Also curious if once you recieve the card, can you use the $25 email promo and pay via the gift card for an additional $25 off?

      • I’d assume so, that’s what I’m hoping! Stack with a decent sale and it will work out pretty well.

      • +2

Likely, but the email promo is only for full price items. It counters any promo discount on the item

  • Shipping $9.95 unless buy over $100 worth of gift cards after discount applied so effectively need to buy minimum $175 worth.

    RIP surf stitch

  • Rip they used to have crazy good deals years ago

  • You can actually use these gift cards as money through eftpos

    • but still only at surfstich?

    • -3

      Are you sure

      • I've got an eftpos machine at work family business and I used Supercheap Auto gift card on our eftpos machine. SmartPay

        • -2

I have a bcf card. Will try at woolworths today

        • These aren't supercheap auto though.

        • Can you please elaborate as which cards allow this ?

          • @jrt2020: I had $550 worth of SCA gift cards. I charged my SmartPay eftpos machine by swiping then there's a pin

  • +4

Not sure if I want to risk it
While you could probably get a refund if they do go bust (likely through your payment provider) I dunno if its worth the stress or hassle.

    Edit:
Seems some people are claiming they haven't received their gift cards in over a week https://i.imgur.com/62S2JpN.png

This is a great deal to use down the track but after the Dick Smith thing I'm too scared if there is any track… I'm sticking to the 'If it's too good to be true' motto…

    • +3

No doubt gift cards weren't meant to be included in the deal and it'll get cancelled, doubt it's as sinister as some people suggest

      • +1

I hope it is a real deal, it would be a score to then use discounted cards on discounted discounts.

Weird, I used to shop with these guys, never had any problems with returns or anything. Must have gone down hill lately.

  • I’d be surprised if this was honoured, terrible company. Bought a couple of North Face jackets during the last sale where 2 discounts stacked and they cancelled my order without reason. All sizes were in stock at the time and every time I checked the following week. I emailed them to ask why, and they replied 3 weeks later. They didn’t provide a reason and said bad luck because one of the sizes was out of stock now.

  • +2

    Asking for trouble

  • should have read the comments first.. i have just bought north face jacket :( hopefully there won't be any issues..

  • +1

Too risky… no for me even though I was after a few things

  • +2

Links don't work anymore. looks like they took the gift cards down.

    • Let's see if this deal gets honoured now.

  • +1

I would…but then I’d have to buy crap from this dump of a business.

    Hard pass.

  • Refunds are being given out now

  • Refund email from paypal received!

  • +1

Your order has now been cancelled as requested.

    No, I didn't.

    • I just got this as well. No communication from them, guess that cements me never shopping there again.

    • It was requested by management.
