Any advice for reliable pet sitters?

My wife and I are going overseas in a few weeks and need someone to sit our cats. Mostly it’s just a house sitting job as the cats are low maintenance, we just want someone there to take care of them for a few weeks.

Does anyone have experience with the cat-sitting websites and have trust/faith in any in particular?

  • Have used MadPaws previously. Experience was fine.
For extended periods away I tend to use pet boarding places instead.

  • Boarding kennel. They are cats, not precious little mini humans with a penchant to sue owners who don't worship their needs.
They will be over the 'how dare you' experience a half hour after you bring them home.
Beats the crap out of what could go wrong with a sitter

Find someone you know (or their family members) who is struggling on finding a rental at the moment. Pay them half of what the cat sitting websites charge (because they charge a lot)

They're getting paid instead of paying for rent, pet has constant care, house has someone in it while you're away. I did that recently, worked out really well for all parties.

  • Ever considered an auto cat feeder & cat water fountain? Then give your key to the trusted neighbours/friends so they can drop in at random times during your absence.

    • Then give your key to the trusted neighbours …..

      But …..

  • or just accept that cats can cope in a cattery while you're away. Honestly , if ppl actually gave a rats about their cats, they'd get them used to this early.

Maybe OP needs someone to stay short term at their (by their description), that is okay with cats.
Assuming their Location is correct,it's in Melbourne?

  • I leave my cat in a cattery for long term stays. If you're going over Christmas, you should book now since they are sold out very early on.

  • I completely agree with you getting someone to look after the cats in your home. That is what we generally do when we go overseas. We usually get a friend to stay with the cats whilst we are away. Someone’s kid might be OK if they are in their twenties. I’ve heard about cat’s coming back from catteries very sick. We leave our cats on their own overnight but any more that that someone needs to either come in regularly or stay. The cats might get sick or hurt themselves.

  • Try petcloud.. better results than madpaws in my experience..or make friends with neighbours.

  • We use TrustedHousesitters for our dog and it has been great so far. I can PM the referral to you if you decide to register.
