Electric Scooter Comparison Ninebot Max G2 Vs Navee S65

I'm a bit confused by the branding but apparently the Ninebot "max g2" (not max, not max 2) is a great option for an electric scooter out recently. Another thread says it's aimed at US market but it seems like it's sold at a few stores for ~$1500.

There is also the Navee S65 which is rebranded as Xiaomi Ultra, which has been discounted to $999 recently on ozbargain.

It seems the Max G2 is concluded to be the better scooter but I have doubts that it will be discounted under $1k much. Whereas if the xiaomi has already been $999, maybe it will be reduced even further during Black Friday. I think the latter scooter has an annoying motor whine but I guess if the price is low enough, it would be worth getting even if it's the inferior product.

Does this sound reasonable? That the Max G2 is a good option if it ends up getting discounted but if I can get the xiaomi for cheap enough, that is also an OK alternative?

  • FYI they're illegal in public in Sydney and people do get stopped and fined in the CBD. They especially target those not wearing helmets and riding on footpaths.

It's amazing how many colleagues don't know this.

Another reason not to live in Sydney ;)

    • Yeah right? I have always wanted one and feel like I've seen a huge influx in Sydney CBD bike lanes in the last 6 months though - it is really confusing.

      • I've been very tempted too, but not risking it after seeing many people get ticketed. They tend to focus on those not hearing helmets and riding on the pedestrian walking paths or tramlines more than the bike lanes but still not worth it.

  • I own a Mearth RS Pro 2023 and I love it.

    • Just hope you don't have any issues. Mearth support is non-existent.

      • In all fairness to them I've only had one issue that some junkie tried to steal my scooter and mangled my front brake rotor in the process. Mearth sent me a replacement for about $50 which was delivered from Sydney in a few days and also instructions on how to remove the front wheel, so no complaints here.

They seem to have a bad rep online that almost stopped me from buying it in the first place, but in my experience its undeserved.

  • Location Sydney

I have some bad news for you mate

Despite our corrupt government's attempts to outlaw green energy transition, I will continue to perform illegal activity by using my low energy emission-free vehicle instead of the government suggested diesel SUV.

      • Just be prepared to pay a fine if you ever get caught - 2.7k fine

        • Yeah, I ride backstreets of a residential area to minimise risk of police.

I think they will be legal in NSW eventually. I would hope in 12 months but potentially within 24 months.

New trial looks like it was started yesterday: https://www.transport.nsw.gov.au/roadsafety/road-users/e-sco…

Imagine this……… in one area of the state, any idiot who has never used a scooter before can rent one lying on the ground and ride it around totally legally. But an experienced user with their own scooter can face $2700 of fines for riding their own.

Going through a red light in a car is a $481 fine. So it would be cheaper to go through 5 red lights in a car, potentially killing people, than to ride a little scooter on the side of the road. Sounds legit.

  • Having had a max G2 for about a week now, and it's my 4th scooter, I can say it's an excellent bit of kit that won't disappoint you, the build quality and sturdiness alone are top notch. If you do get one though, get the Global Edition, I got mine from electric kicks for ~$1450 with two accessories thrown in (phone mount and lock).

    • I was looking on reddit and apparently that model is highly dangerous. Sudden stuck acceleration or sudden braking.

      Be careful. Check out r/electricscooters

      • Yes I've done extensive looking into a couple of possible Max G2 issues, and I'm not worried. Overheating seems to be have cured with firmware, and the sudden braking appears to happen when users exceed maximum speed down a hill, I'm never going that fast at all, but still I'll be cautious. Certainly not a show stopper imo and I'm glad I got the G2.

    • get the Global Edition

Is that so you can set speed to 22mph instead of 25km/hr?

      • Yes, so 35kmh is possible on private property, I still set 25kmh for public use. You also get the 1000w peak 'version' (whether it's only software of physical difference I am not sure) of the motor. But more so just because they were very price competitive and threw in truly useful accessories, and have had much better support and service than the likes of Scooter Hut (never again).
