Best Way to Stream or Cast PC Game into TV Screen

G’day,
I’m interested in remote playing games on my pc from a tv in a different room. What are some of the best ways? (pc is in office room and is hooked up to standard monitor kb/mouse setup. this experience is for games that are better suited on larger screen/ couch gaming)

  • Getting a long hdmi cable from pc to other room is possible, but two things I’m not sure. Will my xbox controller be able to connect to the pc which is now on different place in the home? Also this would require me to manually connect and disconnect hdmi cable to pc or tv which can be a bit of a pain…

  • steam link can be possible, but this is limited to just steam games. (not compatible with battlenet/ xbox/ epic/ gog games)

  • xcloud doesnt work as it’s only supported by certain samsung tvs and again, limited to xbox gamepass’s selected set of games.

If anyone’s got a similar setup, really like to hear about it.

    • Thanks. I have been using Parsec for the last 2 years but will now give Moonlight/Sunshine a try.

You can stream anything via steam stream- just go to "add non-steam game" at the bottom left of the steam window. You can either add the game directly, or add something silly like Notepad and shrink the window so you can use the PC via Steamlink that way. Used that trick on everything from GOG to Origin.

I have also done a loooong HDMI and looong USB via ethernet setup and it sucks hard.

Final option is to get a nuck or something to hook to the TV.

It will work if you have a USB 2.4ghz wireless adapter and/or USB BT adapter. Either way, a long USB cable is needed, and they are bulky and can be somewhat flaky.

Long HDMI cable and a wireless controller

Thanks going to give it a trial go by moving pc to tv room temporarily and connecting with shorter cable I got. (want to check how the scaling and performance is when playing on 4k tv. i use 1440p monitor atm)

Ethernet cable. Sunshine on PC. Moonlight on Apple TV 4K (supports up to 4 controllers). This is how I do it and it works flawlessly, 1ms latency from the ATV to PC. It’s like you’re playing a console but with better performance.

I use Sunshine on my PC and Moonlight on the ROG Ally - docked to the TV at 4k 120hz. Works flawlessly, no input delay, picture looks amazing and I can play at 4k 120fps. PC is on ethernet, Ally is on WIFI 6.

I've looked into many options and this is the solution that works best for me. It also works on steamdeck (although that was limited to 1080p/120 or 4k/60) but Moonlight will work on any iOS, android, or PC/windows/linux device - you'll just be limited to the resolution and controller/bluetooth input latency depending on the device you use. Some TVs have android as a base OS so you can even run moonlight directly on the TV - I've tried this with my Bravia but the controller input latency due to the poor bluetooth connectivity on the TV meant it wasn't viable.

Sunshine/Moonlight on a gaming PC :) I'm also looking for a TV to do this as I've been using this fine since my Fold 3, S23 and now on my laptop streaming at 120hz. Very smooth as long as you have a solid 5Ghz Wifi connection or connect via Ethernet.

Better if you have an Amazon Fire TV (lowest latency) or if your TV has higher enough cpu spec for Moonlight.

    • Thanks, I've got apple tv 4k which is the client for moonlight.
