Dell 34inch Widescreen Not Displaying at 100hz through USB C

Hi all, just grabbed a Dell S3423dwc widescreen. Great monitor, VA panel and it runs at 100hz fine with my home PC through HDMI. I also have my work laptop hooked up through the 65W USB c (built in KVM) but for some reason can only get 60hz?

Does anyone have any ideas why this may be? Thanks in advance.

  • Check your work laptop's 'display setting' config. Nornally you need to select the higher frame rate as it defaults to 60hz.

Right click on desktop, select advanced display options and then check the monitor frequency

    • Thanks for this. I had already tried this and found 60 to be the highest it would allow.

      • Perhaps try connect the work laptop direct to the monitor via HDMI to see if you get the 100hz. If so, then you can isolate the issue to the usb c / KVM issue. If not, then possible laptop issue (?)

Could be a lot of things, what version of Thunderbolt does the laptop have? Are there any BIOS settings available to change the port config?
    Is the cable good enough?

Does the monitor even support higher than 60Hz on USB-C?

  • My Gov HP elitebook will only do 60hz at that res via USB-C

    • Is that you Dan?

  • My Samsung 34" (LV34H892) works at 100hz with my work laptop via USB-C

Check monitor setting for "USB-C Prioritization" and see if setting it to "High Resolution" instead of "High Data Speed" makes any difference

Thank you all. Turned out to be operator error. In advanced settings didn't realise there was a drop down for each monitor and I was looking at the laptop monitor setting and not the new big monitor. Thank you all.
