  • Not bad. Not bad at all.

Samsung responding to latest price drops by Google and Motorola?

    • +5

That and they're probably trying to move stock before Google and Apple announce their latest devices.

      • meh doubt it.. generally most android users are usually smart enough to not needlessly waste money on apple devices. and google devices are of no comparison just at the moment XD

  • +3

Ouch, just got S23+ for $1.3k…

    • +57

      Time to return your membership

    • Why did you go for the S23+ over the S23? Is the S23+ too heavy to put in your pants front pockets?

    • mate I got S23 for $1.3k last month.

      • +2

Both of you are crazy. I got 1.3k for the s22u. More cheaper if im actually post out my trade in phone. I would not spending more than 1k for either the base s23 or s23 plus. 1.3k for the ultra is my limit and that include the iphones. More than that it just blowing money for a phone that no one else will care about.

    • +2

      No SD card

      • -7

128gb is waste of money I suppose, Samsung has a bunch of bloatware preinstalled.

        • Depends on your use case, better then most 32g phones

          • +3

@asa79: I don’t see any modern phones have 32gb storage variant.

            • -3

@Spacexyz: If you need more then 128gb then go the next option up, its pretty simple option

              • +2

@asa79: If they have a SD card slot, that’ll be 10x better than fixed storage.

                • +4

@Spacexyz: Well then this isnt the phone for you

        • +3

I use the cloud. Far more convenient for me.

          • +2

@maxwellish: ALL clouds are not safe, privacy is nonexistent, some day you’ll realise that.

            • +2

@Spacexyz: Privacy is non-existent in 2023. Maybe you should realise that.

              • +2

@mg_k: Some people flash stock Android ROMs on their brand new phones to try get some privacy back with it, but this topic is going off the rails lol.

Ultimately, I like having the Micro SD card slot and it was also amazing being able to replace the battery easily myself. The stuff happening over in the EU with user serviceable phone batteries is awesome!

Next up, I just wish some Android phone gets released with a LIDAR camera similar to the last few iPhones and iPads!

            • @Spacexyz: You think installing stuff on a SD card gives more privacy than the cloud?? Oh my sweet summer child.

            • @Spacexyz: You're right, there is an inherent risk to cloud. So maybe consider settings up freenas or synology and then you'll have your own cloud with actual data redundancy unlike an sd card. It will also double up as a place to save sec camera footage, photo backups, be a movie server, etc.

Just before new iPhone getting ready to release

      • +7

owned iphone 4s, xiaomi 6, huawei p30 pro, oppo x5, samsung s7, s21+, s23+. couldnt afford any iphone as the price is way too overprice (of course this will make the second hand value up no doubt). occasionally you can get 10% off rrp for iphone. xiaomi and huawei have no second hand value, very minimum updates and no official store for support or warranty. so far samsung os is the best for my personal experience compare to xiaomi, huawei and oppo. other reasons to own samsung are higher second hand value than xiaomi, huawei and oppo and with this type of deal probably 40% off rrp.

        • +1

I thought all Android phones don't have second hand value.

      • +2

Apple marketing team really did a number on you

      • Surprised you haven't said the typical thing that most iPhone users say. "It just works".

        • -3

I only said who wants a kimchi phone

    • Apples versus oranges , what's your point !

  • +3

    How much for 512gb?

  • -8

My old S7 shows $5 for trade in, Samsung is always overpriced.

    • Negasorous here….cheer up buddy. Life isnt that bad

  • +5

Can you trade in an old, unworking s8?

  • +3

Awesome post and explanation of steps to obtain OP

  • +1

How long is postage? I'm going overseas in a week and need to send in my old phone. What happens if it comes and i don't send it in? Why do you say the screen is cracked?

I almost bought this and a watch yesterday.

    • Depends if you are close to metro or not. I usually get stuff 2-3 days of ordering from Samsung. But their notification does say 7-10 days

  • +2

Thanks. So what phone you need to trade to get maximum value? Or you trade any phone and you get $1 only?

    • Any phone of any value as long as it's an eligible phone. But you do have to send it in. So make sure it's a really old phone that you don't really need.

      • No you don't have to send it

        • Oh really? Regardless of the value?

          • @itsmoe: They will charge you the value back to your credit card, that's why it said in the post to say you had a cracked screen etc.

The point of the trade in was just to get the 250/300 credit.

    Looking for S24Utra

  • +8

Can also trade in some Bluetooth headphones. Got a $10 pair from the reject shop traded them in.

    • Really? So can trade anything to get $1 value?

    • +2

I'd be keen to hear more about this. What did you trade them in for?

    • I've been looking for reports of people being burned by this in the past, where the headphones aren't the ones that Samsung intended for the tradein… I mean, I have heaps of crappy headphones lying around…

Do they ever reverse the $300 trade-in bonus?

      • +2

I personally traded them in store, and they accepted them. Got the trade in bonus too. They just have to be bluetooth as the store didnt accept the wired headphones to trade in, hence getting cheap $10 BlueTooth headphones from the reject shop.

        • Wild. Did you take them out of the packaging so it wasn't so obvious you had bought them to play their system?

And did you go through the whole trade-in process in store? Or go through the in-app process described in the original post and then opt to drop the headphones in in person?

          • @Maychance: Nope, didn't take it out of the package and they still accepted. They directed us to use the app to get the trade in id and select the in store option.

            • @Quarter Pounder: Were they samsung branded ones or just random?

              • @vawiyoci: Random

                • @Quarter Pounder: Hmm wonder if that means they'll also accept some random chifi bluetooth ones lol and save me from having to buy a pair from Reject Shop. Gonna give it a try and see how it goes.

                  • @vawiyoci: They should, if you want to minimise risk of them denying the trade in, go in store.

        • Which store did you go to?

        • Interested in some details on this … so do you go to the store first and do it there?

  • +7

Do you need to send a phone?

    • +2

      Also want to know.
Last time I didn't need to and just had to pay $50 admin free. Not sure if they still let you do that.

      • +2

I did one recently and they charged a $60 late fee for not returning the device

        • +1

Just traded my S21 Ultra, $400 trade value, Asurion placed a $400 "Security charge" on my card that will apparently be refunded when the phone is received. Don't think they are letting it go anymore

  • +8

Is it just me or are phones not really getting any better? Toyed with trading in my S21+ but there's just no point. Maybe it's because I'm not playing graphics intensive games?

    • +20

The switch to Snapdragon over Exynos is worth it alone.

      • 100%…

      • +6

On what use case if they've said "I'm not playing graphics intensive games"? My wife has an S21+ as well and also doesn't game on phones so it's working for her 100% with no performance issues. I've been thinking about upgrading her phone but thought the cost just isn't worth it given how basic use case is (YouTube, WhatsApp, emails, messages and some web browsing).

    • True ive had the S22 ultra and s23 ultra and they are basically identical. Can't really tell any difference in performance, battery life or image quality

      • -1

I upgraded the same and notice a big difference in battery at times. I couldn't be as carefree when it comes to charging.

        • +2

Yeah I read about this but I honestly see no difference. I paid special attention to this and it was quite disappointing. Maybe if you play games or do something intensive it is noticeable but from casual use I found no difference

          • @qvinto: I youtube 8 hours most days and music a few hours outside of that as well as some occasional gaming. 20-60mins a day. I can go to sleep without worrying about charging and my alarms for the next day
My s22 would be cutting it very close/die

      • i thought one of the big selling points was the improved battery life on s23u. people were claiming double that of s22u

        • Yeah double is definitely not true if you are a casual user. Maybe 10-20%?. Perhaphs if you use CPU/GPU intensively it makes more difference but for regular browsing, email, surfing, youtube and photos i see essentially no difference.

    • +2

I've been thinking about replacing my P30 pro countless times which is around 3 years old. Huawei updates stopped a while ago. Everything else is still Great Inc battery life. I've looked at pixel 7, Samsung's, Zenphone 9, moto fusion all seem to be a sideways upgrade and are missing something the P30 pro is better at whether it be wireless and quick charging, telephoto lens, great battery life. I'd be Interested to hear what P30 pro users have upgraded to and are they happy with their choices.

      • +5

i owned a p30 pro then s21+ then s23+. definitely p30 pro camera wins all the way with + model, not sure about ultra. overall, i prefer samsung os than huawei os. as i dont use camera a lot, so s21+ or s23+ is a winner for me. in term of battery life, both p30 pro and s21+/s23+ almost the same. after 1 year of usage, the battery life will deplete as usual. i use xiaomi wireless charger with 20w, there is no difference in term of charging speed for p30 pro or s21+/s23+. pretty sure up to 15w charging. as p30 pro has stopped the updates long time ago (i think soon after usa banned the huawei), there is no change in term of security and os interface. no regret for me going to samsung. also i dont see any difference in term of snapdragon (s23+) vs enosy (s21+) processor. hope this helps from my personal experience.

      • +3

I went from the P30 Pro to an S21 Ultra after getting on one of the old trade-in deals.

To be honest, I don't feel like much changed. The P30 Pro was a great phone aside from a couple of quirks (e.g. being overly aggressive in killing background apps) and despite being a 4 1/2 year old phone probably still holds up well to the phones of today. The S21 Ultra cameras are nice but I'm not necessarily any more impressed with it than I am with the P30 Pro generally except for the zoom features - that's where the S21 Ultra cameras take a step up.

    • If you play mobile games, but those are most pay to win. Probably once every 4 years is more than adequate. I noticed even YouTube tech reviewers that deal with latest devices all the time often are keeping their devices for four years. I went from a note 9 to iPhone 14 max pro. You get a noticeable improvement from the camera and screen over that time but nothing massive really. You would see more improvements jumping one generation a decade ago. I buy now with the perspective of keeping the device as long as possible. I figured the pixel series and the A series are probably offering some of the best bang for your buck. Samsung flagships after a year become more palatable from a cost perspective. And since Samsung actually support these models for 5 years, I guess that could offer great value too like with this deal. The exynos snapdragon thing, personally since after the snapdragon 835 era, chips have been good enough for my use no matter what. Most applications would run fast on a potato it seems, most phones seem to get at least 4 hours screen time with a day use. If you care for your battery by avoiding heat for example disabling fast charging features, the battery could still be 90%+ after 4 years ime.

    • I went from a Note 20 Ultra to the s23U.

My battery is at 71% currently. My Note had to be charged at work even when new.

Night photos are massively different in quality.

  • Any further discounts on Education store?

    • +1

$90 less the base price, but only $100 extra trade-in bonus. No extra $300 off

  • +25

Great deal , I just wish Samsung would sell the phone for what it’s worth ($700) and stop making everyone jump through 5 different hoops to get there

    • -1

But then people won't buy saying there is no discount or we will wait for discount, jacked up price and every now and then discount works better with human psychology 😀

    • -1

That statement could be applied to all manufacturers

  • 128gb is oos it seems

  • +4

How long did it take for you to get the loyalty code? I called them and they just redirected me to the email :)

    • I also want to know this.

      • +1

        Got mine after 2 hours.
