Net/Notebook sub-$100

Hi guys, looking for a netbook or notebook running Windows as cheap as possible for running etax and a car tuning software (requires USB port too). Is it possible to pick something up for less than $100? I don't need it to be fast or a big screen or anything, just the most basic windows machine! Any help appreciated.

  • Not sure if they will handle the system requirements on etax or your tuning software or not:

Windows CE 128m RAM, 266MHZ CPU $66.99 delivered (from China): http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/7-Mini-Netbook-Notebook-Laptop-WI…

8.9" Netbook Windows XP PC WiFi 8Gb SSD 1Ghz CPU $139 delivered (from Aussie): http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Pendo-8-9-Netbook-Computer-NEW-Wi…

This is good value and would run most programs but it's almost 3 times the price of your budget: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/79775

You might find a netbook that runs Atom for $200 or so but it's not likely you'll find one less than $100 unless you go second hand.

  • Thanks for the links Monad, should've been more specific. Needs to be a desktop version of Windows (rules out first and second option) and the third one doesn't have an USB port :(.

    • No worries, I got rid of the Android after realising you wanted Windows based only, so you mean the third one is (was) the PendoBook U900 @ $139 running XP. I just had a look at the specs and it has 2 usb 2.0 ports.

      • Oh you're totally right, not sure how I missed it in the specs. Looks like this is the frontrunner then! CD-ROM not required.

  • Sounds like maybe you need a cd rom aswell. i have a IBM Thinkpad t61p for $150.00. Not sure if you want to go up that much least its reliable though.

  • Here's a second hand laptop for $89 delivered: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/COMPAQ-N610C-P4-M-1-8GHZ-ATI-WIN-…

Though Mikinoz's t61p for $150 is a much better and later model rig if you can pay a bit extra.

    • +1

Thanks, just be careful that one is running 6.4gb hdd and 512mb ram on windows 7. It wont be quick.

Min specs for windows7 are below

      Windows 7 system requirements

If you want to run Windows 7 on your PC, here's what it takes:

      1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor

1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)

16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)

DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
