TPG Refund for Cancelling Service or Cheaper nbn Service for Cancelling Email Addresses

Hi

TPG dropping email name has #$%^&* inconvenienced me badly. Yes it has been a big mistake in hindsight for last 7 years having TPG email accounts and just being a TPG customer when could have gone with local service and Australian customer service.

Has anyone tried with the TPG overseas admin team to receive a cheaper monthly subscription or if you cancelled your service with TPG, TPG have waived the fee for the next month because they have dropped their email service. Can you help as I would like to know before I call them and how did you did it.

The message you provided appears to be from someone who is unhappy with TPG, a telecommunications company, for discontinuing their email service and wants to know if they can get a refund or a cheaper subscription or have fees waived if they cancel their TPG service due to this inconvenience. Here's a breakdown of the message:

The person is upset because TPG has discontinued their email service, which has caused them significant inconvenience.

They are regretting their decision to have TPG email accounts for the past 7 years and express dissatisfaction with TPG's customer service, possibly implying that they would have preferred a different service provider with local and Australian customer support.

They are inquiring if anyone has tried to negotiate with TPG's overseas administration team to get a reduced monthly subscription fee or if anyone has successfully canceled their TPG service and had the fees for the next month waived because of TPG discontinuing their email service.

The person is seeking advice or information on how others have dealt with a similar situation before they contact TPG themselves.

In essence, the message is about someone's frustration with TPG over their email service changes and their desire to explore options like getting a refund or a cheaper subscription before making any decisions regarding their TPG service.

        $%^&* Gmail

  • Stay with TPG as they are Headquarteered in North Sydney, Australia, so pay tax in OZ. If you do want to move then stop ranting and move or contact TPG yourself about your issue before you post a rant.

    • Thanks not all rant, but I prefer to leave or possible save some money or get cheaper internet.

So how is this not a rant:

        $%^&* inconvenienced me badly.

        • Your'e a funny person Andy having a rant too. I am hoping you are a troll or TPG employee because you are missing the main point. Yes I felt pissed off that out the of the blue I was sent an email saying I have 1 month to switch to a third party company OR else my TPG email addresses which have many accounts linked to will be deleted. Why can't I mention this in my post.

The second paragraph is about if anyone else has made contact with TPG about this and would like to share their story. I have come to a bargain site where people want to save money. I am just trying to save money.

Take the free 12 months they're offering with THe Messaging Company, should give you time to transfer all those archived penis enlargement spam mails to a nice new Gmail account.

Good one but no. It's only free for 1 year. Other ISP's don't do this.

      • How would you cope if you ever changed providers?

        • In a NT creek with a leaky boat.

        • Thanks for your thoughts random. I should be ok.

    • I too 2nd this.

I've been with westnet since 1996 (now under TPG group).

ISP email was always treated as a value added addition to your internet access, which could be taken away at a moments notice.

… just like internodes radio server + the newsgroup server that they closed in years go by.

Swap your email to TMC … or not.
Depends on how much you value that current email address.

While your at it … register your own domain, and host your email somewhere.

      • Thanks simplystu. I am IT ignorant and had no idea they could take away emails like that. I do not value my current TPG addresses anymore and have switched to gmail.

Free (edit: Complimentary) ISP emails are a thing of the past. Some providers (maybe many, haven't looked) don't even provide an email service.

I worked at Iinet back in 2021 and at the time there was an issue with Iinet emails and accessing them through Outlook. The issue was never resolved. It just isn't an area of revenue raising for ISPs. It's a relic of the dialup days, where your ISP wasn't simply the facilitator of you accessing the internet, they WERE the internet. It eventually became an easy roadblock to prevent people from switching services. I'm actually surprised they continued to host email up until 2023.

Now, that does suck for you (and everyone who thought it was a good idea to use their ISP email as their business email, and painted it on the side of their van). There is no but.

As to whether you can get a cheaper deal because of it? Not sure. There used to be a retentions team at Iinet after the TPG takeover. They were able to offer the occasional incentive. Process was that you call up and say you want to cancel, then the CSR said something about not being able to do it, and put it in for a referral to the retentions team. I guess the hope was that people would have cooled down by the time they get contacted back and forget about it, because the incentives were never great (iirc).

    • Hi Morien. Thanks for your input and explanation. Learning all the time. Hoping people have had success.

Good luck getting anything from that call centre other than a response within 24 to 48 hours.

    • Thanks elgrande.

We're leaving TPG internet. When I called to cancel, they offered $5 discount per month for 10 or 12 months.

    • Thanks Transient. This is what I am wanting to know. Is there anybody else that had a response from TPG about discounts or not having to pay 1 month in advance to leave? Not only will you help me but others out there that would like to do the same.

      • Regarding the payment of 1 month in advance, I believe TPG internet services are paid for 1 month in advance (didn't check my first bill but that is what TPG told me). If someone wishes to cancel, they also told me that 30 days notice needs to be given. So if you notify them on 1 Sept that you wish to leave, then the services will end on 30 Sept. So they may charge a few days extra, charge less for the final bill or provide a pro-rata refund depending on when the billing cycle occurs and when you give notice.

If you are joining another internet provider, ask them how long it would take to connect. Then use that as a guide to work out when to notify TPG you are leaving and when to notify the new provider you wish to join, so there is a reasonable but small overlap by TPG and new provider. Otherwise you run the risk of paying too much or have a period when you have no internet at all.

  • Has TPG lost many customers ( Lost me) with the result of not wishing to supply an email service?

  • Beware of TPG.

I called them to cancel my service 3 months ago. They didnt cancel my service and keep charging me.

After further reading on the internet, they asked for a written email to cancel their service, which customer service didnt tell me.

Im emailing them asking for refunds now…
