Exactly. By that standard, the GS3 is FREE from Telstra (on a huge plan).

I found it quite misleading on Amazon's website where there's no clear indication how much do you pay each month. $99 Samsung Galaxy S III 16GB is new customers only, and when you click on "Phone Only (No Contract Charge)", the price reverts back to $550 for AT&T, $590 for Sprint and $600 for Verizon.
Still, there's no where stating how much it's going to cost each month on the Amazon product page itself. By the time you start selecting a plan, for Sprint for example, it would be starting from $70/month for 450 minutes (they do have "unlimited data" though). Verizon gives you only 300MB/month data for $80/month with unlimited minutes/text (cheapest plan from Verizon Wireless).
In that regard, I thought Australian ISP is doing a much better job at presenting the dollar value and overall commitment up front. Better regulations?
