Scti Travel Insurance

I’m very tempted to go with Scti insurance for a trip to uk. Covid is not so much a thing these days but still out there.
I don’t know if Scti is suitable for say covid cover.
They say kids go free? How is that as there premium cover does not come that cheap and with the cost of the adult flights and kids flights they only go by paying policy holders so just the two adults.
So if we mum and dad caught covid and needed to change flights etc etc then they only cover for us both not kids.
We yes could get the maximum $2500 per adult or one trip $5000 but our flight cost more than this.
So I’m still out of pocket if the case.

They have rave reviews etc but no sure if there cover is suitable was going to go with insure and go but they don’t have a great name and I’m unsure if they cover each person fir covid.

Every insurance is great until you need to make a claim.

Recently had a good experience with SCTI. Travelled to Thailand.

My 4yo fell sick and had to be hospitalized. We had to stay in the hospital for 3 nights. I just made a phone call to SCTI and they handled everything. Their local rep contacted the hospital and sorted out everything.

Since my child got admitted 5 days before our return flight, SCTI reps did call quite often to check on the recovery and asked if we needed to change our flights. Luckily the doctors did provide us with the fit to fly cert. So we did not change any flights.

My 2 yo also fractured his arm on the same trip. But since he was treated as an out patient i had to fork up the charges. But once back home i was able to claim it back.

Overall good experience from my end

    • Wow two kids on same trip needed seen to I bet that was a bit stressful and seems scti helped the issues a lot.
I’m more focused on the covid thing and not being paid enough if we had to change or flights etc but there maybe less chance of getting covid these days but it is out there.
But I definitely read a lot of positives with this company.

      • It was pretty stressful but worked out in the end.

Sorry couldn't be more help regarding covid claims.

You can try calling them up! Their reps are pretty good. Maybe that will give you a better suited answer to your query.

  • Had a 1 claim with SCTI.
    Would recommend.

  • Don't forget cashback, it's currently at 4.9% with Cashrewards.

    Also in their FAQ section:

Is there cover if my travel is affected due to a family member or friend being diagnosed with COVID-19?

A relevant person is defined in the policy as being:

    • A member of your immediate family
    • Your travel companion
    • A person directly related to the primary purpose of your journey (e.g. a relative or friend you intended on staying with during your journey).

That would indicate your kids are covered as long as their names are on the policy?

    • Yes but I believe you’re not covered per person two kids and 2 adults I believe only paying customers ie parents.
So if any of is got covid be it mum and dad for example then we would be only ones covered paid out.
And this is $2500 per person which to me would be for both us adults not the kids.
As you know and everyone else that flights for kids can cost as much as adults so really i would need to be covered for all four of us.

If I split our flight costs in half as it’s priced on return flights and add to adults and 2 kids it would not cover the costs of the flights be it depart or return if happened on one of these routes.
They offer one trip which I believe is one way $5000 even splitting our flight costs in half to factor in one way we would be $700 plus out of pocket.

Unless I’m reading getting this wrong.

It say’s kids are covered free but yet only two paying policy holders only get paid. Well adults.

    • It’s this paying persons that get me which would be myself and wife this below is regarding upgrade the flight etc covid has a limit.

      Cancelling or changing your journey

Protect yourself in case you need to cancel or change your trip before you set off. Ideally select the maximum amount each paying person would need to be reimbursed to cover costs such as flights, hotels, tours and activities if you needed to cancel or change your journey. This limit excludes cancellation and changes due to COVID-19 which have a maximum benefit of $2,500 per paying person, up to $5,000 per journey – please read our COVID-19 SPDS for full details of the COVID-19 benefits we offer.

I obviously need stronger glasses I noted the kids flight costs way more.

So what I’m finding is going by paying persons which I assume is is myself and wife as kids are free we are covered for covid at $2500 each or $5000 per trip which I assume is departure or return.

As our prices include taxes and is based on a return I then have this amount per person I will add kids in even though they are not paying persons.

Wife and myself is $2905.80 each for departure and return half this would be $1452.90

2 x kids are $2072.10 each for departure and return half this would be $1036.05

This above is with taxes and are departure and return.
      So adding the adults half x 2 of $1452.90 = $2905.80
      Adding the kids half x 2 of $1036.05 = $2072.10

Adding these two would be $4977.90

This is based on costs of kids and adults one way fares either departure or return.
And if they go by paying person and say mum and dad got covid then the $5000 one trip would cover one way or if paid each adult then the $2500 covers also.
Obviously kid’s can’t travel on there on so based on covid these would cover this.

What I don’t know as never had to cancel a flight or change a flight is you pay taxes on your flight I assume you get all this back as my flight costs above are them included.
But are you charged fees when having to cancel or change for whatever reason ?

I know I upgraded with Qatar not basic but next level up that allowed to select seats and gave extra 5kg luggage allowance and I’m sure to change tickets options twice.

So say myself and wife I’m just saying this as an example could be just one of us who got covid.
But if we both had, who is our first go to? Insurance company or Qatar?

Now that I believe covid is covered by saying what I mentioned above there is also

Cancelling or changing your journey non covid

Now this is same $2500 per paying person so should give same results or am I missing something and there are further costs.

Who is to say that my flight was cheaper then than now or if there is extra charges?

Should I upgrade this one for more?
I’m not sure the amounts to can climb to but obviously the $2500 cover is at no cost.

Nobody wishes there trip to go wrong and to be honest not really bothered me much in past but this time I seem to be more cautious and personally I don’t want to be out of pocket whatever comes our way.

I was not concerned about the other things scti covered as I’m sure most are like for like with other insurance companies but I was more focused on covid side of it.

But i believe I’m right above that this does cover us for covid.

But do I need to upgrade the Cancelling or changing your journey or no need?
