Costco Cat Food?

My 3-year-old Ragdoll eats whiting for breakfast and dinner. Throughout the day, he has access to Royal Canin Adult Ragdoll dry cat food. He doesn't seem to be picky with dry food. So I'm looking at other options because the price of his current dry food has increased approx 30% and seems to be frequently out of stock. Has anybody ever tried Costco's cat food?

Doesn't really matter if we've tried it, all the matters is whether kitty will eat it and that it's suitable for their diet.

    • That's true. I noticed a better change in his fur from Optimum > Royal Canin. I wonder whether this will continue when changed to Costco ones.

  • Our 2 cats eat the Kirkland Signature Super Premium Maintenance Chicken and Rice Formula. It's quite a large bag so I seal it in recycled yogurt tubs to keep it fresh. They're odd though…don't like tinned food at all. Fresh bloody rare steak is a winner always, so we share when we have it.
That's the extent of their killer instinct!

    • If you want them to eat tinned food then I suggest Fancy feast. This is like kitty crack. There is a school of thought that having some tinned food helps to avoid some kidney issues later on because it increases the amount of water in their food.

Our cats go nuts for poached chicken. We do it in our InstantPot and they associate the sound of the float going down with time to serve.

Not knowing any better, for the first few months we had a cat we just fed him standard cat food from Coles/Woolies, but he quickly started having medical issues with mineral crystal build-up in his urinary tract, causing him to pee very little at a time and very often. I took him to the vet, found out the food we were feeding him sucked, and while placing him on an expensive Veterinary diet to rid him of the issue researched about better products online. I ended up finding this website (https://www.petfoodreviews.com.au/kirkland-cat-food-review/) and noticed that costco cat food was a good, cost-effective alternative. I've been feeding him a combination of this plus fresh meat throughout the day and he hasn't had an issue since.

    • Thanks heaps. I'll read more about it.

  • My friend's cat eats the Salmon and Sweet Potato one; seems to be happy with it

    • Agree with the Salmon… I have 2 ragdolls and veterinary/ home visitors compliment how healthy they look. They seem to enjoy it.

Man you guys cats eat better than I do.

    • Awesome. Might give to my cat to try - if not, return.

  • I switched over to maintenance recently and there hasn't been a problem. They've put on a bit of weight, so I'll have to dial back the servings. Shows they're eating though.

    • Awesome. Thanks heaps.

  • Has anybody ever tried Costco's cat food?

Of course…. But won't really matter, it will come down to if you cat will eat the stuff or not.

So buy it and try it out. If they don't, costco returns are pretty easy going.

    • Agree. I'll try both. If not, return :)

  • We have a manx at home and have been using the costco cat food for 2 years or so. He always has access to the dry food, he hasn't gained weight, constistant stools and the vet says he is in good health. So no complaints here.

I just re-read the question… I have not "tried" Costco's cat food, but I'd have to be starving or extremely drunk / high to consider it, and that hasn't been the case for decades :). I'm sure I'd find it … crunchy!

That's a very good value cat food. I've tried to give my cat cheaper food but he starts to gain weight quickly so have to come back to the expensive one. Will definitely try the Costco one since it has such good reviews!
