Will a Wireless Router bought from the U.S work locally?

I'm guessing a 'yes' but can some kind soul please confirm? I'm looking at an Asus RT-AC66U - well over $300 here but under $200 in the U.S.

  • Yes, those standards are international. You might find that the power pack has US pins though.

    • Great. Many thanks.

    • And the power supply will be 120V not 240V. Basically, you'll need to buy a new AU power supply.
And change the Wireless Channels to AU only (US has 3 extra channels 12, 13 and 14) that are not legal here.

      • That depends on whether it comes with a universal power pack or not. Many computer appliances do, but it pays to check.

      • Erm……. no. Just no.

Neither of those pieces of information are correct.

The power supply will be fine on this model, with just a cheap old adapter.

Australia actually has MORE channels legally used than the U.S.
Australia can use 12 and 13 that the USA can't, and neither are allowed to use 14.
It is not really important though as you set the wifi region in the router anyway.

        • So greenpossum is correct?
          This surprises me greatly.

You are correct on the channels, US has 11, we have 13 and Japan has 14 according to Wikipedia.

  • You'll just need a new power cable which you can pick up on ebay for < $5
