Good Quality and Well Priced Bedding Sets Suggestions for First Timer?

So..I finally have my life together some what, recently bought my first mattress, super proud of myself.

I have been doing a bit of research into bedding. I have come across 'Egyptian Cotton', 'Sateen' etc etc. Ideally I just want something nice, that represents good value for money but makes me feel a little rich as I sleep on it, but also don't have to replace after a year.

Where do you OzBargainers get your bedsheets? Any recommendations and any warnings?

Target sheets are good value for money

    • Awesome, will give their stuff a look, I assume them and Kmart are probably the same-ish?

I find Kmart ones aren't as good, but they are cheap. Target ones are surprisingly good quality for the price, I like their Supima 400TC ones. Egyptian cotton sateen is my favourite as it's smooth and doesn't pill.

Canningvale when on sale are good. Our mattress is a bit deeper unfortunately so the corners pop off constantly so we don't use them anymore.

You can't really go too wrong with Sheridan Outlet sales as someone else has mentioned. I wouldn't buy them full price though!

        • The recent reviews on the supima and also the other best purchased sheets suggests a change in quality , probably due to supplier. I might drop by spotlight and see if I can grab some sateen ones there.

    • Agreed, I got their supima 400 TC sheet and prefer them over the kmart and IKEA ones

After trying a bunch of places Sheridan outlet for me when they have their big sales. The sheets are on the pricey side but you get what you pay for. IKEA’s stuff is good value too

I actually prefer Sateen over Egyptian cotton (probably because I haven’t paid enough for Egyptian cotton) and I just like the feel of it. Bamboo cotton is also really nice for summer but durability isn’t great (I used it briefly but stopped because they look old after a while)

There’s a word of warning before you go looking at thread counts see this if you haven’t already because manufacturers can game numbers.

    • Cool, will check out sheridan for sure, the link you shared mentioned Sateen can pill etc, has that happened to you yet? how long have you had your Sateen sheets good sir?

      • So far no issues thankfully. Been 4 years on these sheets

      • how long have you had your Sateen sheets good sir?

        But Gunnar is a lady …. I think ??

        • Nope, I’m a guy

          • @Gunnar: OP had a lucky guess then

            • @[Deactivated]: Lol don’t worry, I can see how you can come to that conclusion

The quality of sheridan have declined in the last 2 years, and the price has gone up significantly. When you could get a good set of egyptian cotton set sheets for $70 was the good old days.

      • Dam, i had noticed the price had climbed but shame the quality has dropped

I reckon you cannot go wrong with Egyptian cotton.

Avoid polyester/ polyester blend. Natural fibres only.

    Ikea has pretty good sheets

I have Sheridan linen sheets for winter, and bamboo / cotton blend for summer. But Target has some surprisingly good sheets that aren't too pricey. Look for pure cotton and with a higher thread count.

I’ve got decent sheets from Spotlight. Maybe look at Harris Scarfe. As others have said look for the full cotton ones. If possible have a feel of the sheet before buying them. You need a decent Doona, and Doona covers are even more interesting. If you get good quality bedding it can last for years, even decades.

    • No Costco recommendation?

      • Actually no. Most of the Costco sheets tend to be blended.

        • Gross.

          • @[Deactivated]: Yeah I know. They do have a couple of Bamboo/Cotton blends that might be interesting. However, the best ones are only King Sized.

    • So I was at myers and somehow, i don't know how, i walked out with 2 doona cover sets, i couldn't help myself.. but also :D

  • After all the wonderful advice here, I still cannot make my mind up. oh lord help me. :D

    • Go get the target ones. Pretty good. Won’t break the bank. If you don’t like them get some more expensive ones and keep the target ones as backup for washing day.

      • So got just 1 bedsheet set from Kmart to tide me over, will be going target tomorrow to check out the goods.
