Solar VIC has announced the combined household income threshold for the Solar Homes Program will rise from the current $180,000 per year to $210,000 per year. Eligible households will be able to access the $1,400 solar panel rebate & the $,1400 interest-free loan.

it is if you were on the fence. I wasnt eligible when I got my system last year now I would have been.

      • +1

How much did you pay for your system, and how big is it?

        • +1

$11.5K for 10.5 Kw though Clipseal Solar in Vic

(went through a non-fly by night solar company for warranty / worksmanship purposes).

Used to get $1K elec bills now its half that, its paid for 1/4 of itself in just over 1 year.

          • @Franc-T: Cheers for the info! I'm in Qld so I know they don't compare, but for anyone's interest I'm getting a 13&10kw system for $5999 which I hope, of course, doesn't need too much maintenance

they really should allow multiple rebates

    • just keep applying for energy rebate every new round

My understanding is that if you already elected to install solar panels, you're no longer eligible for the battery system rebate?

    • Nah.. You can

    • battery system rebates are over, but yes that's correct, previously you could only have one kind of rebate, either for solar panels or for battery.

    • +1

Think this has changed - the only clause relating to previous rebates says "the property address has not previously received a solar battery rebate".

    • +1

If that was previously the case, they might have changed it:

As a Victorian householder, you could be eligible for a solar battery loan if you meet the following eligibility criteria:
you are the owner-occupier of an existing property where the system is to be installed
the combined household taxable income of all owners is less than $210,000 per year
the property is valued at under $3 million
the property address has not previously received a solar battery rebate
the property has a solar panel system with an inverter capacity equal to or greater than 5kW,or will have one installed in conjunction with the solar battery installation.
the energy storage solution has a capacity equal to or greater than 6kWh and is listed on Solar Victoria’s battery product list and the property does not have an existing energy storage system.
pre-approval is obtained from your Distributed Network Service Provider (DNSP) to safely connect a battery to the grid
the owner/s agrees to receive information from their Distribution Network Service Provider about taking part in battery trials to maximise the value households get from them.

    • I received both. The solar system rebate around 6 years ago, and the battery one around a year ago.

Can someone validate my logic please regarding elegibility below:
"the combined household taxable income of all owners is less than $210,000 per year"

if am the sole owner of my house (on title), then Solar VIC wont consider the combined income with my spouse?

    • This is my understanding. If the house is in your name, rates are in your name, you apply independently, etc. then they'd look at you as a sole owner and only use your income.
(I looked into this a few years ago when I applied, this could have changed)

      • (I looked into this a few years ago when I applied, this could have changed)

        It hasn't changed.

        • thanks both!

    • It is basically the combined income of the house owners listed on the Council rates notice. If you're interested in getting the rebate, please let me know. I can help you :)

middle class welfare while the poorest can go (profanity) themselves with ever increasing utility costs as they cant afford the outlay of solar…..fair system this!

    • You could always go the interest free loan, whatever you save on the power bill by going solar can pay the panels off. Also the lower class have access to subsidised appliance replacements. While this does cost, it's short term pain long term gain.

  • Does anyone know how the solar vic rebates/interest-free loans eligibility works if
    * one partner has received a benefit in the past (where they owned a home on their own)
    * they are now partnered, in a new (shared) home, but the other partner hasn't received a benefit?

I assume the answer is no but can't find something saying this explicitly - just the generic "you haven't already received a rebate/loan". (Does that mean if they apply separately, they qualify? Or both people must apply together because the home is in both names?)

    • I think there's a clause that says "per household/residence" or something along those lines

    • If only one partner has received the rebate and the other one didn't. Both of you still have to apply for the rebate. SolarVIC will make a decision.

    Glad they've increased the threshold
Couples on 200k a year must just be so hard done by to qualify for a $1400 rebate - another quality government scheme

  • Is the 210k threshold applicable from now, and are they looking at your household's past two income years?
