Question Answer
1. Is Boost operated by Telstra network? Yes, on the full Telstra network
2. Does Boost support 5G? Yes, for all Boost prepaid customers and it is currently on trial until 3 April 2023
From 4 April 2023, 5G network access will be included as standard on your service and we’ll be introducing capped download speed caps on our 4G and 5G networks
3. Does Boost support e-SIM? Sadly not at this stage. However there are plans to do so
4. Do you have to activate the SIM within 30 days? Every Cashrewards Boost cashback up to and including May 31 has been approved (confirmed by TA) - provided you activated within 30 days of order
5. How long is the SIM expiry? Usually 1 year, but to qualify for cashback the SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering
6. It is showing “new customer” on Boost website. What does this mean? New customer term is only for the additional Boost data, and nothing to do with the cashback offer
7. Can I receive international text message (aka int. roaming) with this SIM by default? Yes, you can receive SMS while overseas, but can’t send outgoing to Australia
8. How long does it take to receive the SIM? According to the Boost Rep: Once dispatched, you should receive your order within the following business days: Metro Areas – 2-5 business days for capital cities – Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Darwin, Hobart & Brisbane (order before 4pm). Non Metro or Regional / remote areas – 3-7 business days
9. Is porting in a Telstra number to Boost considered a "new customer"? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Porting a number from Telstra to Boost is definitely considered a new customer
10. Are you able to purchase multiple plans using different names / ID (or can I purchase 4 x plans for the family using my own details)? From Boost Mobile rep via dm: Received clarification from the team and this is a tricky one since for compliance the terms is showing the customer is only allowed 1 sim per transaction but he can buy multiple SIMs and then activate them all under his name and he will then be able to manage all the numbers when he logs into the App with his Boost ID.
11. Information on what to do when the "please try again later" message comes up List of indicators that can affect how your order is flagged in different financial systems, which can hopefully help you understand what is going wrong
12. Can this be used to recharge? No, this is a starter pack. Using as a "recharge" is being dis-allowed and activating first and moving the number may be allowed but is frowned upon and may not be allowed in future depending on how you ask for it.

Enjoy!

Do similar bonus data deals ever pop up for existing customers? My 12 month BOOST SIM is expiring in a couple of weeks and I can't really be bothered churning to become a "new customer" - what's my best option?

    • Me too !

    • +1

Unfortunately not. You just need to bite the bullet and buy the cheapest (charged) Sim (not a $2 one) and swap over for a day or two then churn back to Boost.

    • +1

I'm in the same boat as you. I ended up buying a $30, 28 day Optus one from Coles when it was on special for $10 last week which I'll churn over to for a month, then transfer back to Boost at the end of that.

      • ^^^This^^^

If like most people you don't enjoy the porting process ( has got harder over the years ),…especially needing to port

twice to keep existing number, this is the best way. Gives you 28 days between porting chores, and get decent value

out of the small expense of a starter pack when purchased on sale beforehand. I did this every 28 - 35 days for years,

but after some bad porting experiences and better value for 12 month sims happy to only port one a year, and activate

burner sims when needed for extra data.

Boost don't reward existing customers. I changed.
Coles by the way does 25%off for my recharge.

      • Read in this comment that you can chat Boost to put existing number to new sim, is that incorrect? (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/14150424/redir)

In the FAQ above, “new customer” condition is only for extra data, not the cashback. So it means we don’t need to port out and back to Boost since this deal doesn’t have extra data or if we don’t want to avail the extra data if it has?

  • My question may be off topic. How do you manage multiple mobile numbers since many ozbargainers buy more than one boost sim cards?

    • +1

Only with phone support, but it works….

  • Might be a silly question. But just want to confirm will I be able to port in when activating from my existing Coles numbers to Boost if I purchase this 12 month plan.

    • +3

Yes, I always buy BOOST 12 months sim and in transition I get $20 (always sold for $10) Coles sim for a month. Very easy to port out to Coles and port in back to BOOST.

      • +1

Another potentially silly question, how long do you have to port out for before you can port back in?

        • I don't think there is any limit. I usually do 30 days.

@Ironh59: Cool, I’ll give it a go then. Thanks

I called OW and told them lucky mobile is selling this pack for $175 and got the price beaten to $166.25

    Link to lucky mobile
    https://luckymobile.com.au/mobile-plus/product/boost-200-sim…

    • Isnt OW one a different plan. OW website mentions it comes with 165GB of data. https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/boost-mobi…
But the $230 (currently $200) plan on Boost website is 170GB data plan. https://boost.com.au/products/230-prepaid-sim

      • sorry didn’t check the data , worst case senario give or take 5gb less data. But I guess if your speak to Boost and tell them it’s new activation pack they might be able to match the data to 170gb as the activation would be done through them.

    • They wouldn’t do it for me :(

      • Really strange they did it for me no question asked

        • Which store had stock? Every store I've tried to call has no stock available

          • @kelvach: Loganholme in QLD, call the officework 1300 number and get it delivered it will be free delivery

      Ty.

Too much drama ordering it from the Boost site for me.

Tried 2 times yesterday and 2 times today and gave up.

Rang OW and got them to price beat like you did.

Unlike the 28days profit earning one
For 365days plan while it requires SIM must be activated within 30 days of ordering to be eligible for cashback
makes this deal less attractive unless you are ready to port out and in very soon

    • +1

You need to activate within a month to get the cashback, for the 28 day sims as well.

      • activate in 30 days is killing this deal.

    • Was your cashback getting approved on the profit 28 day sims? activate within 30 days was always a condition of them.

These are also available around $180 on ebay after ebay plus coupon. A good alternative if you prefer to avoid the wait and/or potential of untracked cashback (admittedly rare for most people but it does happen). Also if you've obtained ebay gift cards at a good discount then effective price can be cheaper than this deal.

FYI - Boost recharge vouchers available in denominations of $100, $150, $230 (previously $200), $250 & $300 from Newsagents & Convenience stores, presumably all for 12 month validity.

    • How much data?

  • +1

Unsure about others , but believe $300 240gb, $200 160gb, but personally (light data user) can confirm a continuing 80gb for a recent $150 recharge.
