Cheapest Android phone with 5G

Hi all,

is there any unlocked phone that I can get which support 5G connection? (ideally even under $100…. it's fine if it's over but as cheap as possible)

Specification doesn't matter at all, doesn't have to have good battery life, there is absolutely no requirement apart from having 5G internet access.

Reason for wanting this is to have a temporary USB tethering device to live in a house without NBN for a while, without needing to use my primary phone at all. I do have an old 4G phone, but 4G at where I live is a bit hit or miss, 5G tends to be much better.

Thanks in advance!

what network? a brand new unlocked 5g phone under $100 doesn't exist. a good cheap option is the telstra vivo y55 5g on sale for $149 everywhere currently. Cheapest unlocked option you can get is the TCL 20 R 5G $199, $189 with code MC5PAUG but you need to wait for shipping.

    • Thanks so much for your input,

I will be using Boost for the next month and half or so (cashback sim), and whatever SIM I can find thereafter. Therefore, unlocked phone would be much more versatile.

I did search around quite a bit and you are right —- I can't find a sub $100 5G phone, hence I posted this thread hoping the power of OzBargain.

    ideally even under $100

at that budget at best you can look for cracked screen second hand chinese 5G phones

    • honestly that's not a bad option given my usage. Will look into it, thanks 🙏

  • Have you looked into those travel hotspot wifi routers? Not sure if you can get 5G ones for $100 but should be more reliable than a phone.

  • Second hand fastmile for around the hundred mark.

Even a 4g 818 would have better cover than a phone

    • Second hand fastmile for around the hundred mark.

      u mean Nokia Fasmile 5G modem ?

those cost like like $500-$600 new
at best like 200-250 $ second hand

      • Seeing them come and go on FBM/gumtree locally at $150.
Depends on the area I guess.

        • hmm really ? 150 is a great price honestly given how much the ISPs charge for them around $600 (like 17$ every month for 3 yrs)

    • Thanks for your input, I prefer a mobile phone + OpenWRT router if I can, this way I can Reverse Proxy out without public IP, for security camera etc.
