Is there an advantage in using this device over the native apps on the tv (in my case a samsung using netflix/prime/youtube premium etc).
I thought that too, but i find chromecast much more intuitive, it aggregates all the streaming services into one interface and their voice recognition seems better. Can cast anything to the screen (some tvs have that function but probably not as easy to do as CC)
I like it, for ~$60 its great value.
The facility to aggregate services is nice - esp for the kids when looking for a movie on a rainy Sunday arvo.
I had that same question https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/14196920/redir.
i bought a $700 55" hisense from good guys and the OS (vidaa or something) and apps on it were almost unusable, its so bad. Went and got one of these and never looked back.
If you only use those three apps then no; if you ever need an app that isn't on the Samsung store then yeah these external stream devices are super handy.
Plus they get the latest app updates instead of waiting for Samsung to get around to it.
this or $49 Amazon Fire stick 4k max?
I've seen this asked in pretty much every post on Firestick or Google TV and it's not going to be any different unless you specify your use case 😀
The obvious ones are Wi-Fi 6 and Fire OS on the Firestick vs. 802.11b/g/n/ac and Android on the Google TV. For general usage, it is a wash. So if you don't have a specific need, choose the one that you are more comfortable sharing your details with.
$69 at JB for those who don't have a Cosco membership.
Great Product Still
