Expensive time to travel with weak AUD

    • Travel is never cheap

    • True unfortunately

    • Plus the profit margins. See todays news, they’re raking it in.

    • Weak? These are toilet paper levels, not just weak :(

    • it won't change anytime soon, actually it probably won't change ever.

good thing everything in the usa is cheap, so it's fine.

Both places I’ve visited before and loved, but I don’t think I’d go to San Francisco in it’s current state for free.

    • +2

      Homeless, drugs and crime?

      • I went there 15 years ago and that was bad enough, hate to think what it's like now. So sad, San Francisco

      • +1

        And sh1t everywhere…

    • +1

not even for free? i imagine thats an exaggeration? Yes there's homeless but it's not a set from the walking dead where you'll get tackled by someone as soon as you enter the bart. But travel destination aside SFO itself is great for bouncing off to other north american cities.

      • +4

Not even for free. Lol, yeah right, if my issue was homeless people I wouldn’t go to any major city in the world.

    • +2

I concur, went in 2019 and it was terrible enough already. The people were generally nice and an interesting experience.

However the omnipresent reminder that things are not well is with you everyday, things like having to not leave anything in your rental if you don't want the windows smashed in, homeless on the streets being common sight and the disparity between a "good" and "bad" area being only a few blocks away at times.

In other countries you get homeless also but generally there is a sense of lawfulness and security.

In other countries you get homeless also but generally there is a sense of lawfulness and security.

SFPD cops are some of the most busted ass cops you'll ever see. It's honestly like Robocop in some areas, the Mission, Tenderloin, etc.

    • Just got back from SF.

Yes - fentanyl and crime is bad in certain areas. These should be avoided.

Other areas are totally untouched. You can have a good trip with sufficent planning.

It is very expensive with exchange rate (+ tips + tax)!

    • its like a scene from the Walking Dead

    • Literally just got back 2 weeks ago, it was fine - just like any other big city. But we made sure to stay out of the worst parts, which we would have done anyway.

    • -1

You might want to avoid Perth too, then.

    • Bring a broomstick…

    • its a perfect time, imagine all the free stuff you can get. just travel with an empty suitcase.

Don't think I ever fly qantas because of virtue signalling The Voice.

  • Any chance there will be a sale for return to La on Sun 31st March/Mon 1st April returning Mon 15th April?

  • -1

tightened the gun control and I'll consider going back.

    • You'd better watch out for all the junkies there too. Especially San Fran.

      • +1

I'd go back if the alcohol research guy is still there.
I said "Fosters" then he said Australia.
I said "Adelaide" then he said Coopers.
I then contributed to his alcohol research fund.

    • You're not a person of colour, so you will be fine

  • Tempted to neg, but once you select flight there are 2 additional stops each way, so definitely not direct flights.

    • Where are you departing from?

Under the notes, you may have missed this -

"Nonstop flights from Sydney/Melbourne/Brsisbane (to Los Angeles) & Sydney (to San Francisco)"

      • Not sure what I'm missing, all the flights have additional 2 stops between Melbourne and L.A.

  • Just wondering is it upgradeable if we have enough qantas points?

    • sale fares are never upgradeable in my experience

  • +1

Qantas would be the last airline I would consider flying:

    • CEO who rips off taxpayers
    • CEO who sacks staff and then gives himself a pay rise
    • CEO who bends over for the Yes vote and has his staff virtue signaling with welcome to country on every flight
    • Airline that is plagued by cancellations and delays
    • Airline that wants to shut down competition
    • *soon to be ex CEO

    • +1

I think you are virtue signalling.

    • Add airline that sold tickets to cancelled flights to the list..

    • i enjoy all my flights, doesn't affect me any. lol

  • Will Qantas stop selling those tickets immediately once the flights are cancelled?

  • I'm not really sure how I'm supposed to get these prices without going through an extremely poorly-rated third-party website like Cheapoflyt, BudgetAir, or Kiwi.com

  • Singapore Airlines is $100 more from Perth. That's worth the extra $

  • Amazing. Fly Sydney to Los Angeles = same cost to fly Melbourne to Sydney to Brisbane. And you get more luggage!
