Yea, I've got several Lifx bulbs still and they're good but with Matter/Thread coming in I wouldn't be starting a smart home with wifi Lifx stuff.
I'm personally going down Home Assistant Zigbee path

There are countless options if you want to rely on wifi only smart home stuff. That won't be replaced.
Matter has heaps of benefits (when it matures with more devices) and ofter people already have a compatible Google Next Hub, Apple Homepod, Apple TV, Amazon: Echo 4th Gen etc

Light socket/well is actually a really good location to plant Thread router and re-inforce the IoT mesh, not worth deploying a wifi-only device anymore
