It is quite good, but not good for travelling, they will check your carry-on luggage in every airport, even if you don't have the blade.

    • +1

If you don't have the blade then why is it in your carry-on? Do you intend on buying blades at your destination?

      • That's the idea.

i have hidden blades in every capital city so i just take the handle and im prepared for anything

      • yes, not really the best experience

  • +6

I have switched over to this with astra blades, i dont why exactly, because ozbargain.

  • +2

Got one last time, used it once and found it terrible. Reverted back to Schick 5 blade, it's sat in the box since.

    • Try unscrewing the handle a bit. It allows more flexibility in the angle.

I don't think angle was the problem. 5 blades vs 1, it just doesn't do as good a job.

      yep I wasn’t impressed either :(
I went back to my edwin jagger and astra blades, I might try it with astra blades for the final verdict :)

      • I've got both this and the EJ. The EJ is much better. I suspect these are designed for trimming the beard lines.

      • i found this way too mild.
EJ de89 + astra blades is still the best entry to wet shaving.

    • I too bought it after seeing it on Ozbargain. Tried it a few times and I didn’t like it at all. It then stayed in the drawer for a few months before I chucked it in the bin with the blades it came with.

Good on those who have managed to make this work.

    • Yay finally real comments from real hairy uses 😀

    • Same - it was terrible. Im back rocking the Mach3.

  • +4

I got one last time, really didn't like the feel of it - shave wasn't close at all. Went back to my grandpa's Gillette, though the blades that the new one came with are quite good (for my face at least)

    • An oldschool vintage Gillette is a wonderful razor.
I have 7 vintage Gillettes (adjustables, tech's, new types)that give a perfect shave every time

I've been using one of these for a few years. Saved a fortune on blades. These blades are common around the world so you'll never have to worry about finding replacements. Does a better job than the Mach 5 imho but you can't rush it…that leads to cuts.

I got a safety razor one year for xmas and haven't looked back. Must have saved a ton on cartridges by now

S&S - do they think consumers are going to throw the handle in the bin every 2 months?

  • Anyone who has had this, what replacement blade would you guys recommend?

    • +1

I think Astras are pretty well recommended here

    • +1

The blade really depends on your face. If you're not happy with the ones that came with it, then get a sampler pack from a shaving supply store, and stick with each brand blade for a week or two (unless it's really obviously terrible).

astra blades are great, better then the gillette ones it comes with for me

    • Astra, they're a forgiving amount of sharp so you can press without cutting yourself.

  • Have this and the Feather one from Amazon Japan couple weeks ago. Found the Feather one is easier to change the blade and a more comfortable shave. Always use a better blade, I always use Feather, it’s sharper and lasts longer.

    • I used Astra blades in a Mhule R89 for years, but recently changed to Feather.

I find the feather blades to be far superior - so glad I made the change.

  • Decent handle but very mild and I find the blades a bit meh. The knurling on this is also super slippery as its a spiral but for $15, it's not bad and has a nice weight to it.

  • Loved the double edge blade. First time I used, doesn't swipe down the cheek, I had to do a double take…. couldn't believe it was so smooth with one pass.
    Loved it.
Then the second shave and second blade and still good.
Same with third shave and still loving it.
Then I got complacent ans while drying it off, I sliced the end of my finger, nearly all the way off.
    Epic fail.
Next shave, I knicked my nostril and sliced gbeege of my nose and then bled horrendously.
I tried again and cut the edge of my ear when trying to get rid of those annoying old man hairs on the edge of my ear.
    Also bled like MFer

Then there it away and went back to dragging a 3 or 5 blade safety razor over my face a dozen times again.

  • Ordered this last night, delivered today around 11:00 am.

Very happy with the quality and gives perfect shave.
