Nice bonus, giving up PayPal protection and paying a 3% currency conversion fee sucks though.

Edit: CR unofficially allows all coupons, SB should be the same right since it's just AliExpress approving it? Anyone have experience?

    • AliExpress can do the conversion for you, it's usually very close to mid market.
I haven't needed PayPal protection yet, touch wood.

Pretty sure it counts as international purchase due to the website, even if in AUD

        • Never been charged it by CommBank even though I normally do for other int'l purchades

I always get billed by Alipay Sydney

  • Darn just bought something two days ago. Oh well at least it’s only $23

  • What does one purchase from ali? Never used it.

    • phone cases, charge cables, car accessories. Usually things of low value.

  • will it stack with existing shopback cashback?

  • It looks like Westpac charge a 3% foreign transaction fee regardless of whether you pay in AUD or USD.

So it comes down to whether Ali's exchange rate or Westpac's exchange rate is better.

Does any have any experience paying in USD v's AUD with a Westpac card?

    • But @AL008 said you still get charged 3% even if you pay in AUD? So that's like double dipping

      • There are two choices that I can see:

        1. Pay in AUD at Ali's exchange rates and pay Westpac's 3% foreign transaction fee on top of that.

        2. Pay in USD on Ali and be subjected to Westpac's (Mastercard) exchange rates and then pay Westpac's 3% foreign transaction fee on top of that.

So, yes, you can call it double dipping.

Not sure which is the better option.

        • AE's exchange rate was massive for my item (see below) I think I'll just pay in USD

          • @CVonC: Seems like it is the way to go.

  • Yeah, so basically if you select AUD on AliExpress, it’s almost on par with USD (xe rate). But if you pay using your Westpac card, you still get slugged with a foreign exchange fee.

    • XE conversion of my 104.44 USD total is 162.66 AUD. AE conversion is 171.42 AUD. That's a lot more than 3%.

Edit: Westpac charged me 163.43 AUD. Just waiting for the foreign transaction fee now which should be ~$4.90

    • I just did a quick check on one item, the AliExpress rate was 3.8% higher than Google.

  • Anyone got the bonus tracked yet? Normal tracking was relatively quick but nothing on the bonus yet.

    • ordered around 11:45pm, tracking email at 1:20am

      • The 15% bonus one tracked for you? I've only got the standard rate tracked

        • Yes, regular AliExpress cashback and Westpac bonus cashback via my linked credit card (Altitude Black QFF)

          • @InfamousCalf: Hmmm didn't track with my Westpac debit. Previous Westpac bonuses have though 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • @gotyourback

      Is this being looked into?

      • I had to submit a missing bonus cashback claim. They added it manually for one transaction but not the other.

  • Both my standard and bonus cashbacks have failed to track. Anyone else had that issue ?. I cannot open a case before 28th August.
