These things are hardly ever worth the time. The worst I saw I think was a bubble tea opening and some people waited hours just to save like $5 for a cup they could've gotten another day…

I love ramen and Hakata Gensuke makes the worst ramen I ever ate.
For the most classic Tonkotsu ramen, the broth taste like low-quality pre-made broth, and the noodle are even sticking together.
Seriously, I won't even eat it for free.
I ate at the Hakata Gensuke in QV, not sure if it is the problem with this exact shop.

    • I had ramen at the same place last weekend and I am not coming back there.

    • +6

That's probably because it is not a regular tonkotsu ramen at QV. That store is pork free (which is what tonkotsu broth typically uses) and only uses chicken.

      • +2

yeah i don't understand that store is clearly marked - obviously it isn't going to taste anything alike to a pork tonkotsu.

    • They also changed something about the meat and meat quality+quantity while increasing price at Ippudo QV, a ramen joint near Hakata. Where to go now ;(

        Shujinko on Russell

        • Shujinko charges weekend surcharge from Fri-Sun + card fees. It adds up.

          • @thangcuoi: So does Ippudo QV.

Wait Shujinko surcharges on Friday? That's not on.

            • @kerfuffle: Many places in Melbourne CBD have introduced weekend surcharge, but they should limit it to Sat-Sun.

Last time I went broth tasted like water and surcharges.
I like Mr Ramen San and also Little Ramen Bar

          • @dasher86: Do you work at any of those two??? :) :) I am always wary of restaurants being slagged off and then spruiking others.

            • -1

              @paddyo: Nope.
              My order
              Little Ramen Bar
              Mr Ramen San
              Hakata Gensuke/ Ippudo
              Shujinko
              Anjisen Ramen

              • +2

@dasher86: If Ajisen Ramen on your list. Then please excuse me.

                • @itstuan: It's only on there as the lowest as I can't recall any where else as bad in Melbourne I have been to.

                  • @dasher86: Ajisen ramen is just average, something Iโ€™d eat if no other options. Iโ€™ll try Mr Ramen San next time as it got good reviews.

          Shujinko is terrible…

    • +1

It might just be a once off. I am a regular visitor at both Hakata Gensuki stores. Never experience the issue you described. I also visit Parco and Shujinko occasionally to change things up. Hakata Gensuki is still my favourite ramen chain in Melbourne.

      • +2

It's because they wanted a pork broth ramen (tonkotsu literally means pork bone) from a store that doesn't do pork broth ramen.

    • qv store is the chicken one. Hakata Gensuke does terrible chicken broth.

Go to literally any other Hakata Gensuke store - just not QV.
