We have intentionally given both of our kids very basic old style Nokia phones on a Crazy John's plan that is linked to my wife's phone. They dont get much credit but they dont use the credit most months anyway.
Eldest boy is 15 and not surprisingly is continually lobbying for a better phone under the 'peer acceptance' banner, telling us other kids laugh at him because of his cheap phone. I have been thinking a new phone might be a good XMas present for him. My worry is that he will use it to fill in the 3 spare hours a day he has away from PS3, Computer and iPad and find another way to get more video games into his life.
He hasnt exactly been careful with his previous phones (1 went for a swim with him on holiday, the screen on its replacement lasted a week and he has been getting around with a cracked screen for almost a year with the new one). I am not up on the features of phones but my preference would be to get something I could swap the Crazy John's sim from his current phone into. A cheapish Android phone might be a good solution in case it also goes swimming and needs replacement before the end of january! I wouldnt want to shell out on a new iPhone and have it ruined lost or stolen in weeks.
Anybody know a suitable phone I could look at? Is now a good time or should I wait until closer to XMas?
is coles still selling those $49 android phones?
