MIDO Multifort Stainless Steel/Anthracite Dial Auto Watch 42mm $737 (RRP $1475) + $25 Postage ($0 C&C) @ Peter's of Kensington

190

Half price Mido Swiss Auto. Mido are part of the Swatch group, watch has a Swiss ETA Movement, 42mm case. Chrono24 has this at over $1K. Bargain entry level Swiss Auto. They have a couple of other Mido watches on 50% off, I just bought the PVD Bicompax Chrono.

    I just bought the PVD Bicompax Chrono.

    Must have been the last one. Now OOS.

  • Bit of a different looking watch with an acquired taste and dimensions. That date window looks out of place and not personally a fan of the thin bezel (non iso certified, but assume it's a dive watch).

    I'd suggest looking at a Tissot seastar Powermatic 80.

    • If you had visited the site, you might have noticed that it isn't, and probably never has been, offered as a "divers watch."

      If you wanted to be unkind, you could have suggested it is a "poser's watch"

      "The values of Multifort Swiss watches are based on the aesthetics of force and strength.

      Redefining the `power watch’ this sleek Multifort Stainless Steel Watch has lots of strong visual clues including an anthracite dial and red dot hour markers along with a shiny stainless steel bracelet. Team it with a classic suit and you’re ready for boardroom action.".

      At an RRP of $1475, and an actual cost of $737, it's twice the price of any watch I have bought in my life, but would, I imagine, not carry quite the power dynamic and cachet in the higher echelons of corporate power as other marques.

      I quite like it, and would expect the quality to be commensurate with Swizz standards. I don't particularly want one. The "Classic suit it would be teamed with wouldn't, IMNSHO, be a bespoke one from Saville row or Milan

        Yeah I had a look thanks.
        Not that much info on the Peter's site (lug to lug, thickness, lug width, so that's something to check.

        Don't get me wrong, it's nice but not perfect as I mentioned and they date wheel is just awkward - would have looked 10x better if they omitted it. The thin bezel makes for a lot of empty space on the screen, some people may like that just not the proportions I like.

        May not be a diver but no doubt share the same movement as other watches.

        Not a bad deal half price, wouldn't pay full price.
        Not everyone has to like it but no need to take it personally. I much prefer the Ocean Star - buy right buy once, not just because something is cheap.

        • "10x better if they omitted it. "

          I'm in full agreement there. Boardroom power users don't ask the date, they decide it.

          • @terrys: Just looks out of place but not stopping anyone from buying it ;).

    • Shame about the downvotes.. 😅

      When I read the calibre of this watch, it reminded me of your recommended watch. I'm still on the lookout for a good special on those, one of these days.. 😁

      • Well, not only did the post offer reasons for the preference, it had the gall to offer an alternative.

        That does seem to upset the phantom neg brigade.

    • Incorrect assumption

      Multifort -> sport collection
      Ocean Star -> Diver collection
      Baroncelli -> Dress collection
      Commander -> Experimental collection.

        oh ignore that then. Got excited about a black PVD Tissot.

    • That one's for timing soufflés

    Also a few nice Multifort's @ Ashford at the moment

    Similar one on leather but with more appealing dial layout to me (but not powermatic movement) US$376.44 (~A$587) delivered with code FB10 https://www.ashford.com/mido-m0054303705000.html

    38mm day date powermatic 80, white dial on bracelet US$371.94 (~A$580) with code FB10. https://www.ashford.com/mido-m0058301103180.html this one can go for a fraction cheaper sometimes on Ashford but doesn't stay around long

    Bi-compax Auto Chrono US$695.94 (~A$1,084) delivered with code FB10 https://www.ashford.com/mido-m0256273606100.html … just over the $1,000 low value import threshold so may be slugged for GST and customs charges at the border (but would still be cheaper than the chrono on Peters)

    Ashford is an authorised Mido dealer so it should come with full Mido warranty
