5700X flogs Zen 2. It has a unified cache which makes it much faster in gaming. You would also be going from 6/6 to 8/16 cores/threads which would be a good boost alone. The 5800X3D is great but the 5700X can match it where the 3D cache isn't doing much (not sure about BG3).
It depends on budget, 5800x3d is another $200 on top of this. You'd be better just grabbing this and maybe saving that money for a better GPU?
I have a 2080 Super so the GPU is still putting in great work. I knew the cpu would be my bottleneck when I built it a few years back and it has finally gotten noticeable.
Honestly I can afford either one but I love me some value for money so am torn. Everyone seems to speak very highly of the 5800x3d though…
Yeah I've got the 5800x3d it's insane, from 9600k to 5800x3d I saw fps go up 30-50% (admittedly I was using a 6900xt) and games are much smoother. If you can eat the cost it's definitely viable for another 3-4 years even with a GPU upgrade (it can keep up with a 4090)
Perhaps not the most powerful for hardcore gaming, but this is the bang-for-buck multi-core champion of the AM4 range.

5700x is still faster for gaming.
