thinking of finally traveling with my iPad and HTC phone as finally stepping up and not staying in thieving crap backpacker hostels when I go traveling soon.
So what are some great bargain travel apps you always use when going overseas?

Cool thanks, were you using ipad or android device?
iPhone, but the apps should run on iPad
OK - Everyone has their own view but ios travel related apps I've found useful are (in no particular order)
Tripadvisor
CityMaps2Go
SeatGuru
Frommers Travel Guides
Travelzoo
Kayak
Momondo
Orbitz
HotelCoupons (I've only used in US - but saved with these)
Negotiator
Expedia
HotelTonight
Yelp
Dimmi
Urbanspoon
Car rental companies all seem to have their own app but I've found my best prices using Auto Europe and Kayak apps.
For translation I like SayHi
Hope that helps a little - Enjoy
Also try
Oanda - currency converter. Used it and website for 15 years.
Hipmunk - excellent graphical tool for comparing flight length and cost. Unlike some others that only work well for USA this works globally.
Wotif.com - not an app but a mobile enabled website. Find accommodation. I'm os currently (Malaysia) and it was as good as anything else I could find.
Agoda - Hotels in Asia
BBC / CNN / ABC - keep up to date with news, abc radio
Packing list apps - I've used a printed out pack list for years but there are apps to do it now.
Sugarsync - sync files between you computer and phone. Eg copies of your passport, flight details. Also try Dropbox
And a +1 for citymaps2go this is a free offline map so you can download all the maps for where you're going and need no data connection. (I put all the Malaysia maps in my iPod touch.) while obviously not as good as a full price app like tomtom it worked well for us.
Flight Track > got it for 10 cents , its bloody awesome
Tripit is worthwhile for accessing itinerary information.
Mostly I use TripAdvisor, TripIt, OffMaps iOS apps to get traveling related information.
I can't access m.travbuddy.com on my iPhone (iOS 6.0.1 - the latest). It just keeps on going back to the login screen. However, I can access the same mobile site on my Samsung Galaxy Note (Android ICS 4.0.4). Is there a problem with the settings on my iPhone?
Android
mapswithme is great (free offline maps) that are pretty accurate.
also o&a currency converter is very useful
Both Free
Android
MapDroyd - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.osa.androi…
Android and iOS
CityMaps2Go
Android - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.osa.androi…
Apple - https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/city-maps-2go/id327783342?mt…
Both app are like old fashion street map. very useful when data roaming is not accessible. does not go down to level of google street view. but it;s both free~
i can say both app worked really well during my trip(2012) around Japan and South Korea. i tend to use it on the mobile phone instead. had CityMaps2go installed on iPad 2 and both apps installed on a HTC Desire S
I prefer Travel Stories Mobile. It is good to plan trip points, set locations, budget and track trip activities.
I haven't really used it while travelling myself yet, but HearPlanet gives info about things that are nearby around you - possibly a replacement for a dedicated Travel Guide in a stop over point that you can't justify buying a dedicated guide for.
We bought TomTom Western Europe when we were driving around and so glad we did. No issues with data roaming as all the maps are included in the app itself.
The Geocaching app can help find locate nearby caches, and geological formations (earth caches), many of which are in very interesting places and a well written description provides great insight. If you are going to a non-english speaking country then the descriptions may not be in english - so be prepared to translate.
