Low end sennheisers are just terrible
Really? Reviews from, well, just about everywhere disagree with you there.
Low end (but more expensive) Sony's much be amazing then! They'll look great next to your Sony Muteki home theatre system.
I've got those Sennheisers and they are OK but not brilliant - they tend to lack definition and depending on the music I listen to the mid range quickly becomes too much so you feel like you're in an echo chamber. I fixed most of the issues with the equaliser on my music player and they don't do too badly after that.
Having said that I have no other recent bottom end headphones to compare to, though they did sound considerably better than anything else I listened to anywhere near them in the price range in the shop (JB). My comparison was also very flawed and subjective - The listening environment of the shop was not very good (very noisy), and the music was not of my choice so I had no benchmark to compare to, and I couldn't rewind to compare the exact same bits of music on different headphones but just had to go with what they were playing at JB.
I have some more expensive cordless Sennheisers and they are much better, but a hundred dollars more. See my previous posts for details.
In the end I decided that the price/performance trade off was worth it for what I wanted them for (mostly blocking out the kids noise when working at home) and I'm relatively happy with them.
You won't go wrong at that price.
