Science Diet 3kg Cat Food Optimal Care. Ocean Fish Recipe. Buy One Get One Free $41.99

40

Science Diet Cat food. Buy a 1.5kg bag or 3kg bag and get another for free. No point buying the 1.5kg bag as its 26.99 a bag, while the 3kg bag is 41.99.

Not sure if other shops have this deal going as well because the advertising material at the shop were all from Science Diet.

Anyway pretty good buy for a top quality cat food.

Please note - this is 'Cat' food, not Science Diet Dog Food.

Expires 16th of September

    a top quality cat food

    Science Diet is rubbish…

it's full of fillers… there are lots of better natural products out there…

The only reason vets sell them, is because they get quite a nice commission…

just one of many articles about it…
    http://www.epinions.com/review/Hill_S_Science_Diet_Canine_Gr…

    • That example you gave is for dog treats.. which most pet owners know is equivalent to Junk Food - Hence called a "treat." Not a great article to support your point.

      • -1

Read the review, it's not about the advertised product, it's about Science diet pet food, not the treats…

        • +2

Read the review, its not about Cat Food. It's about a particular Dog Food. It was also written nearly 10 years ago and as per epinion, the article has a very poor rating.

Anyway, Ozbargain is about pointing out Bargains. This deal is effectively 50% off.

Science Diet is marketed as a premium food worldwide and it's really up to the Pet Owner to decide whether its rubbish or not.

        • feel free to save money and buy it for your pets then…

the breeders i talk to reckon is crap… full of filler and preservatives.

they make your pet sick over time…

Thankyou very much for posting this. If you hadn't have posted this I would have never known about this brand. I've been wanting to feed my cats some holistic good foods for a while but everything was just so expensive, but this is great for only $87 delivered for 20KG bag. I can't thank you enough :D

        • i used to feed my dog Eukanuba, but the price has been going up and up and is around $120 for 15kg…

i did some research and a lot of people in forums were bagging Eukanuba and Science Diet and some others and many were mentining blackhawk is pretty good.. i bought a 20kg bag for around $85 a few months back and my dog absolutely loves it…

Hills Science Diet as well as many other brands are rated 1-2 stars. Now there are many 4-6 star natural food (i.e. Artemis, Canidae, Innova Evo) available in Australia and some even cost less than those commercial range.

If owners are going to pay a premium price for Hills Science, I recommend getting Eagle Pack Holistic, Artemis Maximal (no grains) or Earthborn Holistic. Same cost or even cheaper. These food though not the best dry food you can give your cat i.e. Innova Evo or Wellness core (which costs much more), at least they do not have corn or rice in abundance, which are just fillers.

    Eg

    Scient ingredients sample: Ocean fish
Ocean Fish, Brewers Rice, Corn Gluten Meal, Ground Whole Grain Corn, Chicken By-Product Meal, Animal Fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and citric acid), Chicken Liver Flavor, Choline Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Calcium Sulfate, Vitamin E Supplement.

    Earthborn: Wild Sea Catch
Salmon Meal, Herring Meal, Canola Oil (preserved with mixed Tocopherols, a source of Vitamin E), Peas, Potatoes, Chicken Meal, Pea Protein, Turkey Meal, Dried Egg Product, Pea Fiber, Natural Flavor, Ground Flaxseed, Blueberry Fiber, Cranberry Fiber, Choline Chloride, Apples, Blueberries, Carrots, Spinach, Cranberries, Taurine, DL-Methionine, L-Lysine, Vitamins, Minerals, Probiotics.

In any case, quality aside, buy one get one free is still a bargain for people who feed their cat hills science. So positive from me; for the pet post (as I would like to see more of them) and for the 50% :) . I hope that there would be a buy one get one free on eagle packs soon.

If nothing else this posting has raised some good pet food issues. I agree that readers shouldn't criticise posters of a bargain, just because they themselves don't like the product! This is definitely a bargain, and I'm sure that out of the thousands of Australians who buy Science Diet products for their pets, most would be happy to be able to buy 2 for 1.

It has made me do some research about what I'm currently feeding my cat, Royal Canin dry food. I do want the best food my cat for the price. Any thoughts on Royal Canin? Then there is the debate about the urinary duct problems that dry food can cause?

So thanks for the post, it has created some interesting debate and dilemma!

    • I avoid Royal Canin as I think its much the same as Hills Science, Advance (recommended by my vet) etc. Anything with corn in it would automatically be avoided by me.

      Royal Canin ingredients sample:
Chicken meal, brown rice, rice, corn, corn gluten meal, chicken fat, chicken, natural chicken flavor, pea fiber, rice flour, rice hulls, wheat gluten, dried beet pulp (sugar removed), soya oil, sodium silico aluminate, dried brewers yeast, fructo-oligosac

I have two cats, one loves to eat raw meat more than the other, and I found that his fur is fluffy and soft. UI is more prone in male cats on a main dry food diet. Ideally, I should exclusively feed them raw meat (with the proper vitamins & minerals) but it is time consuming to make and expensive to buy. So I supplement their dry with raw meat in the easy packets (not ideal). If you are worried about their teeth on wet food, you can give them raw chicken necks which is said to clean their teeth and they love it. My cat's don't like wet food. It goes off all the time.

My cats love Eagle Pack Holistic. I don't think they are enjoying the current Earthborn, only because of the latters small round kibbles :(.

I buy 'Taste of the Wild' for my cat from here: http://www.naturalpetstore.com.au/
I tried Science Diet, then Royal Canin for my cat but she ended up with a really a dull, dry coat and just didn't look healthy. Taste of the Wild has got rid of her dry skin and given her much more condition (Innova was also really good but it ended up being too expensive). I think it just comes down to what kind of food agrees with your cat though :)

I agree that readers shouldn't criticise posters of a bargain,

Who is criticising the poster? The criticism is about the product

And a bit more insight from a veterinarian about her own profession recommending dry food with mention of hills science and UI (eek): http://www.catinfo.org/?link=origin
