I'd been thinking of trying one of these for a little while now and spotted them on Amazon for $507. I thought about it for a while then when I looked again the price had jumped to $517 and I decided to grab one at that price. They've gone up to $582 now unfortunately, but that still seems a good deal to me.

These pedals are like Kemper profilers but according to many their amp profiles are more accurate, and they're a lot cheaper. You do need to buy a separate box or have an appropriate audio interface if you want to profile your own amps, but the pedal comes loaded with a crap load of amp profiles and there are a tonne more available online for free too.

    Run two amp profiles at once? That'd be nice alright, but at this price point I think you're already getting very good bang for your buck compared to the competition. Buy two if you want that, I guess.

  Have been down the modelling rabbit hole but don't recommend it - you will spend more tine mucking around with settings than playing an you will never find the 'hair on the back of your neck' tone you are probably after.
  Would suggest you get a decent valve amp and some classic analogue overdrive/boosters/ distortions and fuzzes, but mostly boosters.
  Even the simplest booster into the front end of a low powered valve amp can be magic.
  Many classic recordings were done with quite tiny valve amps. Eric Clapton famously recorded with a 5W Champ
  Work with real tone.

    I have a valve amp with a bunch of pedals and a Fractal FM3. The FM3 plays and sounds amazing to me and I use it a lot more than my 'real' amp.

    Your point about spending too much time mucking about with settings is valid though and is why I've been keen to try the Tonex. I do sometimes find myself getting lost in different effects and tweaking things instead of actually playing. The Tonex is a much simpler and more straightforward device than a Fractal and I'm looking forward to chucking it onto my pedalboard and having a play.

      I am back at less is more these days.
      I just cant get the same interactivity and feel with modelling. But hey, no rules each to their own etc
      Just not for me

        Yep, there's a lot to be said for 'less is more' with guitar. I think the feel and response is there with the current Fractal stuff though.

    Completely disagree, the high end stuff has come a long way in the past few years.

    Many pro live acts are touring with Axe Fx 3s or Kempers now, particularly in the past couple of years. Will only continue to head that way.
    But obviously need a budget of ~$4k for those options. More if you require FRFR speaker etc

    Without knowing anything about the listed deal though I'd say it's probably not worth it, I'd lean towards probably look at software solutions before looking at this. Or save a bit more for a Fractal FM3 or something.

      I can remember 'converts' saying just the exact same thing back in the old Pod days. Always sounded like a Pod to me.
      Whatever keeps you interested I suppose but like I said, less is more to me these days.

        Those were never used professionally though (at least widely). Industry is really shifting at the moment, even for legacy acts that you wouldn't expect would be open to it.

        If you're playing for hobby purposes though I think it's just up to personal preference

      This pedal is a hardware version of the Tonex software, so if you're happy playing through your computer without standalone hardware absolutely do not buy this pedal.
      The pedal comes bundled with the software as well, which costs a few hundred bucks if you only want the software.

    I don't think so unless you are finding there's something that you can't find, or something you really want in hardware from ToneX software… or you want to capture a tube amp you have? Unsure if any other features.

    The Tonex only has reverb, compression and a noise gate on board, so you may miss having all the effects of the Mooer unless you want to stick it on a board with other pedals.

    You could run the Tonex through your FX loop and use the Mooer for FX and the Tonex for your amp sounds though.

  1/6th the price of a Quad Cortex… nice. I'm tempted, but with STL about to release their profiling suite competition is heating up in this space. And the way Nu-x has been going, I have a feeling they'll outdo IK at some point in the near future for a much lower price point for terrible guitarists like me.
