why wont you ever fly with them again?

      • Yeah not a fan of the 'vote yes' planes 😒

        • +5

Why are people negging? Do u want rich ceos telling you how to vote?
Did u forget to stop being a sheep to rich corps?

          • +2

            @HangryCakeStore:

Do u want rich ceos telling you how to vote?

Apparently, a lot of brainwashed Ozbargainers do…

These are all people who don't believe in democracy and don't respect other people can have a different opinion.

When other people do have a different opinion, they immediately label them a racist to shut them down from expressing their views, when in fact, they are the real racists.

            • +3

@jv: Surely respecting that other people can have a different opinion means you should be supporting the right of Qantas to put 'vote yes' on their planes?

              • +2

                @dtc:

means you should be supporting the right of Qantas to put 'vote yes' on their planes?

                Qantas isn't another person.

In fact, it is owned by the shareholders and I assure you that many if not most do not agree with this decision.

            • @jv: Im listening jv and would be interested to know your views on the referendum.

            • @jv: This isn't a place for your politics. It's either a deal or it isn't. You keep banging on about the voice in every comment section.

On a side note, how often do you say 'woke' in a given day. Either attack the argument or shut up, calling things woke makes you sound like an out of touch boomer.

              • @T Man:

This isn't a place for your politics.

My comments are about Qantas, they are the ones bringing politics into this.

              • @T Man:

calling things woke makes you sound like

                triggered…….

          • @HangryCakeStore: these ceos did the same thing with the vaccines and what did people do?

      • +2

As someone who is a QF P1 status holder. You can def say that jv… it’s true… very true

        • People don't realise this woke stuff is profit driven. It's illegal otherwise if it's not making money for shareholders as the directors have a duty to maximise shareholder value.

          I am not a lawyer.

    • +42

You mean apart for their old, dirty planes… and their grim service …. and their political preaching… and their price? There are better options.

      • +13

You know you can use points for other airlines as well right? Not just on Qantas metal.

        • -1

Didnt know that really. Can you give me a link on this?

      • -2

Virgin aren't better than Qantas in the domestic market, unfortunately.

        • +3

They are better on price, by a long shot, and customer service IMO.

          • @SimAus007: Virgin is budget+ these days. It's not a Qantas substitute. It is a shame though that customer experience on a full service airline such as Qantas can be worse than a mid market one like Virgin.

        • +3

I'd struggle to be better than an airline that was handed $850 billion in free money.

        • Virgin sucks with this push to only automated kiosks, sometimes you need a maned check in.

          • @CheapBrah: I've always found staffed desks as I prefer them. What airport are you referring to?
Both Qantas and Virgin are trying to get people to use self check-in as much as possible, it's better for their bottom line.
In saying this, I've always found a staffed desk and I travel with one of them at least once every fortnight.

            • @SimAus007: I can’t stand the check in desks, unless you have priority, which I do these days. If you travel once a fortnight I’m sure you also have priority.

Without it the lines can be terrible.

            • @SimAus007: Darwin is completely electronic kiosks for Virgin, they have one staff member to assist with issues but no staffed desks. I asked Virgin staff back in Melbourne about this and apparently it's their plan to roll out the same setup of only electronic kiosks across the nation.

Qantas on the other hand always has staffed desks.

              • @CheapBrah: Ah, I've never been to Darwin so that'd be why I have t seen it. Fair enough.

      • +1

fair enough then mate, dont fly much myself, was just curious

      • +29

        Agreed,

Qantas has fallen to 17th in the world (down from 5 in 2022). They received a $850 million handout from the government and didn't pay it back. Conducted a major share buyback prior to Covid which reduced its liquidity massively (to prop up the share price) which put it in a very precarious position come COVID. Acted like they were better then everyone else by supplying subpar service at extortionate prices blaming fuel prices… only to register a record profit for the share holders.

Australians are getting a raw deal and Alan Joyce/Frydenburg are laughing all the way to the bank.

        • +19

not to mention blocking other airlines from adding more flights into Australia

          • +4

@mouseman99: Good pickup, Qantas lobbyists really fcuked over Qatar (not that i agree with Qatar's human rights records per sae)

Only to strengthen their monopoly on subpar overpriced service.

          • +3

@mouseman99: That is the worst one, though I don't like Qatar as a country but their airline brings in competition which Qantas managed to convince the gov to deny them expanding here.

          • +4

@mouseman99: This is the worst part.

Lack of competition means we'll only have continued higher prices.

Look at ALDI. When they arrived, the major supermarkets who had a store in the same centre were forced to be more competitive, where as if there wasn't one, produce cost much more.

Competition is good. I can't believe we citizens don't have a say in how to get more airlines flying in to Australia.

      • +4

So your values won’t let you fly with them due to their ‘political preaching’, but you’re happy to sell yourself out to buy something through the rewards store?

        What a lesson in ethics.

      • yeah agree. I hardly use qantas. I fly malaysia airlines business class for free thanks to qantas. Plus they have partnership with Qatar the best airline in the world.

    • +3

      here for this.

    • I'm with you 100% I won't fly with them again so I'm blowing my points in the QANTAS store. Got a super bargain for $2,800, a round the world airfare. Damn! That cunning Joyce, he's done me again.

  • Realised my 400K+points expired.
Emailed them and they offered me the points challenge to reactivate my expired points

    • What’s the points challenge?

    • Damn. I’d be gutted if this happens to me and there’s no way to retrieve those points back.

      • +2

Yeh i was. But luckily they gave me an alternative

    • Why didn't you link your Everyday Rewards club to your FF account?

      • Gonna link BP and fill a few bucks every 6 months as soon as they are reinstated

        • +10

Just download the wellbeing app, it's set and forget.

          • +1

            @cheekymonkey97: Also that.
Gotta do the boring inhome solar consultation for 3k points and 1 fill from BP for $10.

            • @easternculture: Gift cards from Woolies is perhaps the easiest way and gives you more points too.

        • Or buy something online using the https://shopping.qantas.com click-through (the Qantas equivalent of Cashrewards, etc).

    • +7

Probably know, but for those who do not know.
Download Qantas Wellbeing, you earn points for walking, and various other 'challenges' checking your smoke alarm batteries etc..

You can just set the daily steps goal to 4k or something easy and you'll hit it pretty much every day, earning you a few points and keeping your overall stash from expiring without having to spend.

      • That’s my trick too. Points will never expire that way as long as you move (with) your phone or smart watch.

    • How do you check the expiry date of Qantas point?

    • How do I check when my points will expire?

  • wish you could sort all by price low to high

  • +9

    Waste of point

  • +7

The more points people like you waste on market place, the more rewards flights left for me. Go for it.

    • +1

It still won't help, not to/for Europe travelling with more than one person anyway.

      • +1

It can be done, just got to be a bit creative like transiting in HK, Japan, or other asian cities then either find a cheap way there or another reqard flight.

        • +1

I know, I actually managed to do it for 3x passengers to Europe in Business, but when you factor in the amount of time searching, the level of flexibility, and the additional costs required transitting through other places, the actual value is nowhere near the numbers some people claim.

          • +3

@CheapBrah: I’ve just been paying to get to Singapore then booking points flights from there. Once you get out of Australia availability is pretty good.

            • +1

@recession1: I got jetstar business flights to KL for only $550 per person (not lay flat seat but beats economy) and then from there on a reward flight to Paris for 3x people next year, but aside from that I couldn't find anything else that accommodated 3x passengers to Europe in business even booking almost a year ahead. Found nothing all together returning so had to split over 2 flights from Istanbul (via Amman) to Bangkok, it was the only thing I could find that even accommodated 2x passengers returning from Europe to Asia in business.

If your flying solo it's fairly easy, once you go to 2 passengers it's quite hard, 3 is almost impossible.

              • +1

@CheapBrah: 2 is quite doable. 3 would definitely be tough. Once you hit a family of 4 you may as well give up.

                • +1

@recession1: Family of 4 you just have to split up into 2 groups (1 parent, 1 child) with flights as close as possible to one and other and hope for the best with regard to cancellation and delays. A significant risk.

A strange thing I noticed recently is that my flight from Istanbul to Amman on Royal Jordanian only let me book two reward seats, but then the same flight was available again when I went to book a third on a separate booking (was planning to take another flight 45 mins later, didnt expect the same flight available). So sometimes even if they have more than X seats on a plane they still limit it by group size which is BS (may just be a RJ thing).

  • +11

Sorry OP but absolute shit way to spend points.

Use them to fly Emirates or other Oneworld airlines if you don’t want to fly Qantas.

PS: Just flew back from SFO on a brand spanking new Qantas 787. Service excellent (economy) and nice clean plane.

    • They're flying direct to SFO again? Last few flights post pandemic I've had to go via LAX.

    • +1

How do you use Qantas points to fly other airlines? Can you literally book flights via other airline websites and use Qantas points?

      • +3

Book them through the Qantas site.

      • +3

book through Qantas, it will tell you if it is using another airline

      • +2

You search for the route you want in Qantas app and if another airline in the Oneworld alliance has rewards seats for that route you can select that option. It’s not any airline. It’s only the ones in that alliance.

      • +3

use the multi city search tool, more convenient

    • Economy? How is it compared to A380? I think the leg room is technically greater. Not sure if true in reality.

    • Emirates fees are rediculous and a waste of points as well when you have to pay so much cash. Economy you are basically paying the cash fair plus points on top (negative value pretty much) , business you are paying more than an economy fair plus a bunch of points (some value but not great), first class is worth it but only 1 seat max per plane if you can even find it (plus still a lot of money out of pocket).

  • +5

Still waiting for a 30% off gift card sale…

    • +2

This. Wait for a gift card sale as it’s way better value if you don’t want to use them on flights.
If you play you cards right you vacant get the cards at 30% off for say JBHifi then wait for something you want to go on sale at JB.

  • +1

Wish OZB could be kept politics free.

    • +1

Culture war, Reactionary politics is so boring.

      • It is so boring and basic and tribal, yawn. Why can't people just stick to bargains on here and bargain related commentary.

  • +2

For people saying this is a shit way to spend points, you can use the minimum amount of points e.g 100 points, and pay the rest whilst still getting 15% off both payment methods. Good deal for certain products
