Just wondering if I have to have a paid for accomodation itinary to get into Japan, or show bank balance. I will be there 2 months as a tourist. I'd prefer to not have to book for every day.
Any links to info, or your experience???
Thanks.

see below
I have 2 weeks booked in the middle of trip. And will book the first night of arrival.
Does the visa app ask for accomodation address?
Been a very long time for me since going overseas.
how do you plan to book on arrival?
Are you working or traveling? If just holiday, you dont need a visa. They may ask to see evidence of what youll be doing, and any country usually requires at least the first place of accom for entry records. https://www.au.emb-japan.go.jp/itpr_en/visa_temporaryvisitor….
If working it will be very different.
Just a tourist visa.
And just to be clear, do you have an Australian passport? The process for someone with an Australian passport vs someone who has PR in Aus with a different passport is very different.
Japan tourism is booming at the moment since they opened their gates to the outside world, I would not keep it to the last minute to book accommodation. A lot of things are getting booked out months in advanced.
Just book a fully refundable rate, usually cancellable the day before. Some rates dont even require to fully pay up front, just a deposit.
I think what you've already booked is fine.
Do you know about affordable accomodation that do not include sleeping in a 18-bed dormatory ? After traveling to Bali and Thailand I feel like Japan is out of reach in terms of prices
Ruling out the capsule hotels and ones with small double beds you can still easily find $100 a night accommodation everywhere. Often around train stations too.
You arent ever going to get Bali or Thailand pricing in Japan, same as you wont get it in Europe or North America. You probably need to think about $100 per night in most places.
Look for 'business hotels'. Dormy Inn, APA Hotels, Route Inn, Super Hotel, Toyoko Inn are all chains of them, all solid, clean, not fancy but reliable. There are plenty of others if you do your homework. Or look for minshuku (guesthouses), which vary a lot in price but can be quite cheap.
If you go somewhere slightly less central eg Ueno or Asakusa in Tokyo, then finding a $100 per night place is pretty easy.
If you are expecting $25 per night including breakfast, then Japan isnt for you. Stick with SE and South Asia
just get a booking with booking.com with free cancellation and cancel it; retain the booking ref.
I just went there a month ago, they usually just ask for one place ( i always pick my first set of accommodation) and thats it, they dont chase it up
Thanks for the input everyone.
Have you got something booked for your arrival? From my experience I've been fine saying that I am going to be travelling around everywhere.
