Tasting notes below:

It is a full-bodied whiskey with a rich, rich, warm taste
Sweet notes of dried fruits, barley-malt tones and shades of smoke are noticeable
A long, rich finish with peaty, peppery and brackish notes
Has a strong aroma of smoke and peat, in which notes of fresh oyster juice, sea salt and sweet citrus shades are also perceptible

I haven't tried it before but it is my friend's favourite whiskey.

I normally buy it from Sense of Taste which is $93 (without any specials)

Think its normally $100 - 115. Often on special around the places for <$98 though.

Only in October last year amazon had it for $59 one of the lowest prices: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/729474

    • Delicious in winter and in front of a fireplace. Peaty and smokey. If that’s what you like, you won’t be disappointed.
Last time I paid $72 for a bottle, so this price isn’t too bad.

My tasting notes from couple years ago :

Nose T10 : Slight rubbery peat that is not overly attacking, combined with a sweetness like apple juice and sultanas. Well balanced.

Palate T10 : very balanced between sweet and peat. Vanilla, pears, light honey and a background smoke throughout. Smooth with a slight dryness. Medium finish. Good level of oily mouth feel. Nothing more to say, it's not excellent but plain good enough for everyone.

      • Tasting it now. I'd stand by my above review

Nice drop..poor man’s lagavulin and not as peaty

When a >$100 scotch is for poor people

    • Check out Caol Ila 12 for a poor man’s Lagavulin 16!

      • Yes have heard good things about Caol IIa..on my list

i prefer talisker to lagavulin. Too much smoke ends up feeling artificial and too hard. The brine of talisker helps offset the smokiness quite nicely.

      • Me too (thumbs) !!!

      • I'm more of a smoke fan. What cheaper single malt do you recommend just for the smokey flavour?

        I've tried Ardbeg 10 and Laphroaig 10

        • Try aerstone not bad for around 50 bucks

Aberlour 12 is quite a good one too, probably not as smoky but one of my favourites of what I've tried along with Lagavulin 16 and Talisker 10

      • +1

No way, there's so much more complexity to the Lagavulin to me. Too bad it's now out of my price range……

        • +1

Port Charolette 10 is around ~120 a bottle and blows Lagavulin out of the water!

          • @brett174: Port Charlotte is actually my second favourite……..just behind Lagavulin :-P

  • No stock showing for me.

  • Seems to be back to normal price now

  • Got one for father's Day. Thanks.
