    Hexagonal Polarised Sunglasses - $89.99

    These or the Octagonal ones?

  • -6

People either hate these or love these…

    • +1

I'm on the fence about them

      • So not really polarizing then?

  • -5

looks ordinary. dont understand why would people want a brand name printed on their lens

    • To be fair, Ray Ban make some of the best lenses around

      • They come out of the same factory as pretty much everyone else

        • +1

Means nothing. Their lenses are of a very high standard with very high protection (although these are category 3).

They use state-of-the-art materials and very high level quality.

Ask an optometrist and you'll see.

Then again, I'm no expert but I do own a lot of high end sunnies and Ray Ban are among the best IMHO.

          • +1

@imurgod: unless they skim on the uv400 coating and still claim themselves as sunglasses (which is totally illegal), all sunglass gives the same protection to uv light

            • @OzOzOzOzzzzz: I agree but most lenses are plastic. Ray Ban use crystal or polycarbonate lenses.

              • +2

                @imurgod: Polycarbonate is plastic though?

The nature of polycarbonate is that it already blocks UV, that's why all the $5 Aliexpress sunnies give you the actual required amount of protection.

Aren't glass Ray-Bans actually quite rare?

                • -1

@Droz: I was under the impression that Polycarbonate is tougher than just plastic.

The glass lenses aren't rare by any means. I think most of mine are glass lenses.

Anyhow, that still leaves the frame, fit, and so on.

As I said, I'm no expert but my experience is that they are better quality than most of my sunnies bar a few very high end ones.

                  • @imurgod: arent glass too dangerous and heavy for a sunglasses, and imo polycarbonate is the worst material for lens, easily scratch , low optical quality.
usually I would get a prescription sunglasses from optometrist with my health fund and just need to pay for polarise lens.

                    • -1

@OzOzOzOzzzzz: No, the glass feel the best. Maybe it's something to do with the balance and build quality of the frame.
I haven't ever noticed them being heavier and just tried them against a few others and have noticed them to actually feel lighter in some cases!

                      Strange… I wonder why

                • @Droz: no, many of the aviators, wayfarer original and new wayfarer are glass, rayban caravan are glass, one of the reason I still buy Ray Ban. Glass is more scratch resistant than plastic and better optical clarity.

If plastic lenses were better they would use them in cameras and telescopes …they use glass though it costs more.

                  • @garage sale: I agree that glass is better, it's just that the majority of Ray-bans have had polycarbonate lenses, to increase those sweet profit margins.

Glass definitely feels more premium and is harder and more expensive to manufacture.

I guess it's more of an indictment of the sunglasses world, where a plastic cheap frame with plastic cheap lenses are sold for over a hundred bucks (or more) - Luxottica are quite a company

          • @imurgod: Cat 4 can’t be sold in Oz.

Cat 3 is the highest and adding polarised is probably the best lens protection you’d get here.

Poor quality sunglasses can damage your eyes. IMO it’s worth spending $90 to not damage them

  • +3
  • Great deal for polarised sunnies, cheers OP!

  • Put coupon Deal10 for extra $10 off. Please feel free to try

    • Says invalid, doesn't work.

      • It worked for me. Might be targeted

    • I also couldn't get this to work - error saying 'some of the items in your cart need to be updated'.

  • Sunglasses are one thing I refuse to spend decent coin on. I'm either going to lose them at a pub, sit on them in the car or otherwise break them in a single summer.

  • I love the look of these and actually got a pair, but I find that they are annoying as the light shines on the back of the glass and causes glare that way. Others mightn't have that issue, but I do and I can't wear them. I found they didn't really work for me and gave them away. Pretty sure this happens with me with flat glass lenses. (mine were the gold and green lenses…not polarised) I find polarised glasses can tend to cause a slight distortion in my vision when I am wearing them for some reason

    • There are anti-reflective coatings that can be applied to the back of lenses, but ultimately the best way to prevent these reflections is to minimise the gap where light can enter between the glasses and the face.

    • I bought a pair of Ray-Ban aviators that had this exact problem - it took me a while to realise what was happening as I'd never had this issue with them before. I couldn't stand it and ended up taking them back and getting another pair from the retailer which were perfect.

This made me think there are some minor variations on the lenses that can exacerbate this problem maybe? Something I'm aware of now (I lost that pair a few months ago and have been trying to work up the intestinal fortitude and cash to replace them - they are so much more expensive now than they were last time I bought a pair!).

  • +2

I just want to thank you all for rendering this deal "Out of Stock" and preventing me from caving in and buying a pair for myself.

    • You're welcome, I bought one.

    • me too
