Seat Cushion for Long Flight

I’ll be traveling to Canada soon and I have a few back issues. The last flight to Canada was torture. Plus the Air Canada seats are awful.

I believe the purple cushions (the slim car seat one) are highly recommended, but cost prohibitive to imports has anyone found an effective alternative that doesn’t make the seat too high?

This place sells them in Australia but I suspect they’re fake because the shipping for two of them was going to be over $300 AUD via a mail forwarder. https://accesshealth.com.au/product/the-simply-purple-no-pre…

I took this cushion on a recent flight to US and it made a big comfort difference, that I now use it on my daily desk chair too. Would recommend.

    • Is it not a bit thick? I’m tall so I’m worried something thick will change the ergonomics

      • Nope, it's a cheap version of memory foam so compresses quite a bit when sat on and gives you added comfort without the added height. Found it easy to put into backpack too.

Check it out at nearby Kmart before you spend $100+ on the others. It's usually in the car accessories section near the steering wheel covers etc. There's a couple of varieties but this one is the flattest and most discrete.

Thanks for mentioning this, using it while WFH. Derriere doesn't hurt as much

I have the earlier version of this one from Therm-a-Rest®
You could risk a Purple dupe?

    • Haha I’ve thought about it!

Good for you. Clearly OP has a different body than you do.

I'm proud of you. You should learn to read the full posts, doing this helps to provide context and answer questions about the 'why'.

    • Maybe your ass is bigger than OPs.

    • The flight to Canada is how long?

  • I know many folks playing Peter Pan in Canada at present

  • We use these inflatable cushions in our hospital.

A bit expensive but everything labelled medical seems to cost more. You could try a cheaper version like this one on Temu, but no guarantee of it's quality.

    • Interesting. Do the medical cushions help? I just found that I was extremely uncomfortable sitting for the 5 hour flight from Toronto to Vancouver

      • The cushions are recommended by occupational therapy to reduce risk of pressure injury. I haven't tried it but the patients seem to like it.
Not sure how they will go in preventing back pain but should help with numb bum from long haul flights. Being able to deflate and pack in carry on would also be useful.
